Description
Marabou storkLeptoptilos crumeniferus
Would you want your newborn delivered by one of these sickly looking storks?
Standing over 5 feet tall with a wingspan of more than 10 feet, these African birds are scavengers of large carrion, which is why they have featherless heads. They also eat other birds, and have even been known to consume flamingos.
These birds also have some unattractive habits. They defecate all over their legs and feet, giving their appendages a lovely white appearance, reports Kruger National Park. This helps them regulate their body temperature.
Marabou storks aren't particularly active; in fact, they are relatively lazy. They stand around much of the time and often pant excessively when they are hot.

OK, it's official. Africa is scary. If I ever win the lotto, I'll donate to a trip so I can see it, but never actually go there. lmao

These guys are so ugly, that you just have to take their photo...
One place at the top on Ngorongoro Crater, where we stopped for lunch, we were told before we got there, not to have any exposed food in sight of the storks, as they were rather adept at just wandering up to you and taking your lunch, which a few of them tried to do. It was hilarious to have these huge birds just walk straight up to you and push that bill in to try and steal something...we had to act like storks ourselves and flap our arms around to show them off,
This is one of the culprits here, with some zebra behind him... he was exceptionally cheeky.
Oh and I still have a couple more photos of them, I am editing one at the moment

It definitely sounds like an interesting experience! They must not suffer too much predation if they're so willing to saunter up and swipe your food. hahahaha That's like the gulls around here, only much larger.
