Jennifer Shelby's job as an insurance agency receptionist affords her few pleasures in life. Her monthly session playing Descent into Darkness is the one she guards the most jealously. She lives to play that dark and dangerous game, where she wins at virtual life as the powerful elven ranger, Elsa.

On game nights, the beautiful Elsa leads a small team of intrepid adventures on successful quests, wins loot, and basks in the glory of victories hard won. Jennifer lives her best life as Elsa – until she takes on the Dark Tower.

Five sessions in a row, the evil minotaur arch wizard, Janus, defeats and kills Elsa and every member of her team. Since the game takes away one player level with each death, each loss only makes the elven ranger more determined to defeat Janus. She convinces her team to enter the Dark Tower one last fateful time to secure their victory – and bragging rights. Death before dishonor! But little does she suspect that death isn't the only fate possible when fighting such a powerful caster.
