Description In the waning hours of the Dominion War, the massive Federation-Klingon-Romulan armada sets a course for Cardassia, to take on the ever-persistent Dominion. Before they all set off at warp speed, the fleet leaders take mandatory role call.

"This is Captain Daniel NegrΓ³n, of the USS Enterprise-D to the fleet. All attack squadron leaders, sound off."

"Captain Benjamin Sisko of the USS Defiant. Attack wings Alpha, Beta and Omega at the ready."

"Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise-E. Attack wings Delta, Gamma and Epsilon awaiting orders."

"Chancellor Martok of the I.K.S. Negh'Var. All Klingon attack groups report they are primed for battle."

"Admiral Sela of the I.R.W. Veela. All Roumlan Warbirds report full battle-readiness. Give the word, and we shall strike."

"Very well. Captain NegrΓ³n again. All vessels, set a course for Cardassia, and engage. All personnel standby at battle-stations. Let us prepare to let loose... the Dogs of War."

PLEASE NOTE: The aforementioned event is NOT CANON. It is a part of my fan-fiction, wherein the Enterprise-D wasn't destroyed. Long story short, I'm her captain, she's no longer flagship, but she is a demigod. Okay?

You forgot Captain Jaryd Harker, Captain of the USS Odyssey, Sovereign Class, attached to Starfleet Intelligence.

Wait, Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E at the same time? I guess Q's been tinkering with the space time continuum again.

Anyway cool picture.

Well like I said in the description, this is in my fan-fic. This was actually my meddling that the Ent-D and Ent-E are in the same place. The D is retired at this point and no longer flagship of the Federation

they're probably very expensive and the cost would undoubtedly lower your fleet size

Yeah thats true... so why not make more defiant class ships i wonder... they were powerful and small no doubt much cheaper then a Galaxy class

up keep? retraining? besides, its cheaper and easier to maintain the fleet as it is without having to go through the trouble of upgrading every single ship and having to retrain almost all of the crews, that would be more time consuming than building a whole new one. as for defiants, idk maybe the galaxy had stronger defences? or that they were still very expensive, even if not as expensive as the galaxy class

I know I'm coming in late to this conversation, but I only now stumbled upon this thread, and the Trek nerd in me just can't ignore a chance to drop in some trekkie trivia.

Training wouldn't be an issue. Starfleet ships all have standardized controls. In fact two of the officers serving on the Defiant, Worf and O'Brian, are veterans of the Galaxy Class Enterprise, and transferred aboard without a steep learning curve.

Also, The Defiant Class ships were built specifically to address threats , that Galaxy Class ships could not handle.

Since this conversation pertains to the Dominion War in which the Federation fought the Jem Ha'Dar, observe how each type of ship performs against their fighters.

First we have the USS Odyssey, a Galaxy Class ship, which features a crew compliment of 1,000, and displaces 4.5 million metric tons.

Next we have the USS Defiant, which displaces 355 thousand metric tons, and has a crew compliment of 50.

For the cost of one Galaxy Class ship, you could construct 12 Defiants, and have enough crew enough for eight more.

The Galaxy's are jack-of-all-trade ships, which sacrifice combat effectiveness for science stations, and opulent diplomatic amenities. The Defiants are warships, pure and simple. It just makes more sense to build them in time of war.

i dont think they are as expensive lol thats jus silly... but i definitely think star fleet needs to retool the fleet because of how badly they got their butts kicked during the dominion war

lol its all good, im a star wars junkie is all, not so much star trek. but i understand what the logistics behind managing an entire fleet would be like, and it would suck
