Autovista:
No car is as fast as this. No car turns like. No car accelerates like. No car EXISTS like. Yes, I'm talking about the fictional Mach 5, the car Speed Racer drives not only for trips, but for racing. The car has, literally, more horsepower than the Bugatti Veyron SS and actually more horsepower than these fighter jets, because the car has 2500 HP and nearly 1000 torque... That, is a lot. And if you compare the handling, my god. That car is a monster, and of course, let's not forget the gadgets that make this car look like James Bond's Aston Martin DB5... Which it doesn't look like. There are seven buttons, all according to the alphabet order:
A -> Activates the Auto-Jacks, that allow the car to raise itself to fix damage, or when the car's racing, they are called "Jump-Jacks" that help the car "jump" through obstacles.
B -> Activates the Deflector, very useful against gunfire. Or rain...
C -> Activates the Tire Shields, very useful against cheaters who try to blowout the Mach 5.
D -> Activates the Tire Inflater, if a tire has blown-out, this button activates a Tire Inflater in the rims and regenerates the tire.
E -> Activates the Shredders, this is for "No more Mr. Nice guy" style, the Shredders can cut any obstacle that is on the Mach 5's way (Quote from Speed Racer in the movie)
F -> Activates the Tire spikes, useful while driving in heavy snow or mud.
G or Center Button -> Activates a homing robot that distracts opponents.

It would be cool for there to be a functional Mach 5, But one of the gadgets may have to be edited:
A- Auto-jacks: Due to a recent simulation I did with a model Mach 5, having metal legs extending while in motion can result in goring the tarmac. So I would think using a set of Aero Jacks would be best.
Using compressed air and a set of mini thrusters on the bottom of the car, it can give you the same result. (This little idea was from the 1997 remake).
But overall the functions maybe possible with today's technology. The homing robot would be a perfect drone type for monitoring, security and defence incase of attacks while the car is Idle. There maybe a way to bring back the Frogger mode from the original, As a form of activating it on a console located on the dashboard, and using small thrusters on the rear of the Mach 5 that extend once activated.

I'll tell you this, at least the movie is better than "the next generation" ugh, that show looks horrible

the next generation? never watch it & don't know about that movie. I think Speed racer movie is not made for adult audience, that's all. I still love how the way The Wachowski brother made the racing scene in the movie, great special effects.

They never used the Mach 5 very often in the film. Because if they had used it at the end of the movie then it would look more sensible like the original anime.

Dude this is awesome!! The model looks very nice too. Almost as if you were the one who made it for the movie Tell me what kind of render setup is that

darthdesign In reply to xentek [2008-05-27 06:39:03 +0000 UTC]
thanks for the comment, dude
I used Vray for render engine, just a simple studio setup with one vrayplane light on the top of the car & spotlight for the background. Photoshop was used for color correction & touch up.
