Description
100 Picture Challenge #45: IllusionThe Jedi Master Atris labours under the illusion that delving into the forbidden knowledge of the Sith will serve and enlighten her, when in truth she is walking down the path leading to the Dark Side.
Drew this for SilverSentinal21 at KFM, but seeing as it's a new artwork, I saw no reason why I shouldn't file it under the '100 Pictures' thing. There's nothing in the rules that says, "No fanart". And even if there were - d'ya think I'd care?
Can't claim credit for the boots design. I kind of borrowed the concept from... whose was it again, Wes Janson's, I think. That, and did I ever mention how much I hate drawing Atris' robes? why on earth couldn't she have opted for more spartan, plain Jedi-like clothes, and not that damn patterned thing that nobody can get right? (Or at least, *I* can't).

My picture from YEARS ago OMG! I can't believe how fast time goes, it has to be yesterday that you were so sweet to do this for me.

It's easy to not know that holocrons are like sith lords trapped in time... Along with their over polarized views (not unlike most jedi) with edges you on to do terrible things and become a monster because of the myth that power is everything and the only worthy goal and that the dark side doesn't come with ultimate payment no matter how much power you get or how long you last...
And a shaken jedi lacks the resolve to reason through this critically

Very cool, like those hovering pyramides around her - looks very enigmatic. And the robe looks awsome, must be a heck to draw but definitly worth it.

Thanks! They're Sith Holocrons, collections of Dark Side knowledge. They whisper evil things to her. At least I think they do.

I love the look of total concentration on her face. She seems to be working very hard to take those first steps down the dark side path.

Superb job! Impressed as always by your wonderful skills. You managed to balance her serenity with the sinister implications of the holocrons (did that sound right?)

about holocrons:
When I travelled to Korriban, I found the locked door in Sith Academy. I found permacrete detonator and received a screen message, that if I couldn't find a way to open this door, I need to use this detonator. Does somebody find a way to open this locked door without using detonator? There is a BIG holocron behind this door and when I use detonator, it destroy the message inside this Sith relic.

... Drat, there *is*??? You know, I can't remember the last time I went through that door. I'm going to have to play the game again.

I went through this door... but I destroy the holocron by using detonator to open this damned door Can't find any other way to open it...

The holocron will only open if you're playing a DS character. If you're playing LS, it'll just tell you the detonator destroyed the holocron. DS, you get a nice little message from a character you met in the first game...

Yee, it's Atris. 50 gold stars for you, for being able to draw her robes; all those little lines look like a pain.

Thanks very much! Though if you look closely you'll notice that I cheated left right and centre. I *started out* trying to reproduce them, but sort of gave up halfway. That and I didn't bother with her belt.

I love the coloring, and it looks pretty good from everything I can see. I agree with Karacat, her leg does look pretty off, but otherwise, tis fab. ^_^ I especially like the holocrons and her robe. Props to you for taking the time to make her robe!

DarthFar In reply to nonny-neko [2006-10-12 03:52:43 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much. I guess I'll go back and fix that leg after all... hopefully I can still find the layer! [chuckle]

Karacat [2006-10-12 02:48:14 +0000 UTC]
I like this! The composition is good, the white background makes it look like a trading card or one of those Magic the gathering type cards.
The only thing that seems a little off is her leg by your signature, it doesn't quite look attached to her knee properly. Like the angle or the shading needs to be shifted a little.
You're right, those patterned robes are a pain! Unfortunately I forgot that since Dantooine Gothic, and now her and her robes are in a second pic!

DarthFar In reply to Karacat [2006-10-12 03:09:56 +0000 UTC]
Heheh yeah it looks off. Actually her lower leg, as far as the original blue pencil sketch went, is properly joined to her knee; it's her robes that wound up wonky because I didn't want to wrap them around her leg. (So there's an empty triangle of cloth). Maybe I should go back and fix that. Thanks!

Thank you very much! (Credit goes to Silver for the whole Atris-and-holocrons thing). I'm glad the time I put into her tabard paid off. The holocrons, on the other hand, was a hash job.

Sweeet. I salute you, Far, that you can whip these out like it's nothing. Is there a deadline for this challenge?
Btw, beautiful picture. I love the details. ^^

DarthFar In reply to Firera [2006-10-12 03:03:51 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much! I'd have to say though, "whip this out like it's nothing" was about the last thing on my mind while I was drawing her tabard.
Challenge? Do you mean the 100 Pictures thing or my assertation that nobody can get Atris' robe pattern right? If it's the former, no, no deadline - at least, none that any of us are aware of, save that you'd *probably* have to get it done by this century. Why, are you thinking of doing it?

Welcome! And I meant churning out the amount of art. I still need to get back to painting in photoshop. Or corel...once my friend remembers to bring it to class.
The 100 pics thing. And there's no possible way for me to do all of this 100 pictures. 1 or 2 maybe. Blame my college. Too many assignments!! *Kills college*

Well... if you allow yourself 50 years to do it, that's only two pictures a year.
I hate Corel Painter.

Firera In reply to DarthFar [2006-10-12 05:25:51 +0000 UTC]
Lol. I never tried Corel. But I'm guessing it's more bothersome than Photoshop because I went into the programme while I was in class. And...ugh. >.> And I doubt college is going to teach digital painting in my course... My coll Suxxorz.

DarthFar In reply to Firera [2006-10-12 13:41:01 +0000 UTC]
I personally swear by Corel Photo Paint. But of course I could be biased since I've been using it since... what, version 7. (Used to do photomanips a lot, but have recently learnt that it's good enough for painting). I like it because it's *tidy* - all the dockers tile up one on top of another, in a row on the right of the screen, and you can adjust brush sizes simply by holding down the SHIFT key. Stuff like that. So when I tried Painter and Photoshop... cripes.
I thought you were in art school? Forgive me for sounding naive but - aren't they supposed to teach all media?

Firera In reply to DarthFar [2006-10-12 18:48:13 +0000 UTC]
I could have sworn I replied to your messag 3 hours ago...
But anyways.
It depends on what Major you take to learn certain programmes. I think those in Illustration will have to learn digital painting soon. For my major I'm not sure. Maybe in my 3rd year, but to my knowledge it won't be this year. But I do know we'll be doing Maya next term . *Jumps around happily*
And, maybe they are supposed to teach all media, but I dunno. Haven't checked out our future syllabus yet. Then again we can't learn everything under on roof in such a short time, I guess.

Hey, it's neat! You did a great job on her tabard, to tell you the truth. And great taste in boots, even if you borrowed them, they're awesome. Add 'em to the inventory at the store, wouldja?
The little holocrons look so innocuous. I guess the further down the dark path she goes, the more Sithy and hissy and red they go, huh? Hidden evils. Brr.

DarthFar In reply to NatalieKelsey [2006-10-11 19:05:29 +0000 UTC]
Thanks very much. I swore and hissed at them rather a lot when I was doing the blue pencil work, truth be told. I'm firmly convinced that whoever designed her robes had to be strongly DS!
One of the 'innocuous little holocrons' has my name on it.

Me too. Killing her was never an 'option' when going DS; it was a *necessity* and a pleasure. The only one I enjoyed killing as much as her in K2 was Vrook.
