It's supposed to be made of yorik coral. The yuuzhan vong used it to make many things. After the yuuzhan vong war, the One Sith uses yorik coral to make lightsaber hilts

Ahhh yes, I finally came across that at some point. I really like the concept they came up with.

I find it weird that it looks like a tree branch. Almost like they respect life and use a piece of wood as a symbol of it. I mean obviously they don't but it looks like it with that saber hilt!

Yeah it sort of has that reverse feel to it. Has a bizarre paradox aura. But in their minds I'm sure that's exactly what they think.

According to the Star Wars: The New Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology(Del Rey's Books).
It was elongated and notched with crisscrossing grooves. The hilt was constructed of a material that physically did not appear to be metal and instead, like the majority of the One Sith's lightsabers, appeared to be constructed of Yorik coral.
Yorik coral was the primary shipbuilding material of the Yuuzhan Vong. It was grown on-planet in the form of a ship, and later symbiotic creatures were implanted or grown within it to perform the ship's functions. It would absorb the material it was grown on (rock, unrefined ores, or occasionally wreckage of enemy bunkers or buildings) but also required organic material. In a completed ship, the yorik coral was run through with the nervous system that controlled and coordinated the various biots, as well as a circulatory system that sustained them. Thus, if the yorik coral of a ship sustained enough damage, it would cut off control and sustenance to all of the various subsystems, resulting in loss of efficiency and then total failure. The handle of Darth Talon's and Darth Nihl's Long-handle lightsaber was said to be made out of Yorik coral.
Yorik coral was also used to create missiles used in planetary bombardment.

Well, in the Jedi academy novels A Hapes princess made her Light Saber out of a hollowed Rancor tooth...it didn't go so well, it over heated and her arm got cut off...fun.

I like it a lot! It's a great looking model.
I can't remember what it is supposed to be constructed of and will look it up once my PC is fully up and running.
I guess every Force user wants a unique looking lightsabre now, don't they? Everyone wants a fancy hilt or a different coloured blade. Or a double-bladed sabre, or dual sabres (maybe with the off-hand one being a shorter version). Then, for futher originality, a lightsabre might be eschewed in favour of something like a Force Whip, a vibro-blade or the ancient Sith blades.
I think the only time it really makes sense to have something unique is when you are either of a certain Order of Force users, other than the Jedi or Sith, that use a certain kind of weapon as part of their doctrine; an individual Force user of great skill and experience that you have been awarded a unique looking weapon or constructed one yourself; or finally, you have discovered one on one of your journeys that was once possessed by a great warrior. For the latter, think of finding one of the Sith weapons in the tombs of Korriban and becoming its new owner.

Ok, nice... much better, the skin here has that coral rock feel to it. That is more or less the the saber of the "One Sith".
The twists are a lot more profound and noticeable than what you have there. There are curves to them, since it is kind of vine-like in how it grips the hilt.
But that doesn't take away that this is a better starting point, something that will only get better.

darthhell In reply to JamesSarrow [2009-10-16 04:01:10 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, sometimes it looks like stone, and sometimes it looks like it's wrapped in something, like you said, vine like stuff. It makes building the model rather difficult. When I made the first model I didn't really want to go back and re-work it, but there were mesh flaws and it was gnawing at the back of my brain, so I had to fix it. So, I am already thinking about how to proceed from here. One day I hope to have it 'finished'. But yes, this version is much better than the other one.

LOL, actually that was my next question. Is there a button, do you squeeze it, or is it force activated? The force activated would be cool, then not just any random person could pick it up and use it.

Deviant258 In reply to darthhell [2009-10-15 15:06:39 +0000 UTC]
Force activated she must be powerful to use that lightsaber. Cause to use either side of the force you have to be very very strong and that go's for both Sith and Jedi. The force is strong with this one. sorry about the star wars line it's one of my favorites next too "Luke I am you're father" Who saw that one coming?Hey if her lightsaber is force activated than doesn't that mean the Sith are strong then Jedi?

Well true, maybe then there is an internal switch that you can't touch, but use the force to flip it and turn on the blade. Then it would simply be just a force move object thing, but no one else would be able to do it.

Okay not the Talon's lightsaber looks bad it's really looks strong and durable but she might need a new one maybe something like Darth Maul double lightsaber or duel lightsabers like Ventress.

It has been stated that her saber was made from a rocky material (Wookieepedia) but some folks have stated it is Yorik coral.

Likely based on some of the Vong Bio-tech seeing as Kyrt dresses himself in the armour of the Dread Lord of the Vong.

Lol, I think the artists just got tired of the chrome and the grip wraps and the buttons and decided that Talon was too cool to be the same. xD I always imagined fossilized wood or coral. You know, like in the stone forest, only with a hybrid material?
Btw, did you see Wil's new piece? --> [link] It makes me happy xD

That's probably true, plus it gives it a more sinister look actually, like a creepy old oak tree. But it made it a BITCH to model. Well, ok not a total bitch, that was an exaggeration, but is was more challenging than the standard metal ones.
I did not see that piece yet, that is a cool one with a clever bit of humor LOL. I'll have to add it to my Darth Talon folder.
