It's looking good, what are you planning on doing for the grip? Wire wrapping, leather wrapped around wood? Solid wood? Steel spacer?

Remember, you can always use a stain to give it the desired coloration. I'd suggest ash or oak, but oak is tough to work if you don't want to put the time into it.
