Description

The Mongoose-class was a small escort frigate introduced by Starfleet in 2247. The ship’s design was heavily influenced by the Constitution-class, but the Mongoose was much smaller, with a crew complement of 50.

Due to its small size, the Mongoose-class could be built quickly, and was constructed in much larger numbers than most classes at the time. These ships were mostly used for defense of Starbases and Federation worlds, but also saw use during the Federation/Klingon War of 2247-2251, which ended with a Federation victory at the Battle of Axanar.

The Mongoose-class remained in use until the 2270s, when it was gradually phased out in favor of the new Spitfire-class.
