Description
Thought it'd never come? HA!
No, really... forgive my laziness regarding this short comic that could've been finished much, much earlier (it's only two pages long, by gosh!)
Enjoy, my loves!

Yay, part 2 is actually here! *does a happy dance*
This comic SO needed to be made. I found all the misconceptions concerning Erik's nose kinda annoying. There where moments I wondered if someone is also going to ask how Erik can even breathe without a nose.

I've actually heard people make that argument. ALW folks, when they are told that Leroux Erik doesn't have a nose. "Don't be stupid," one said. "Of course he does. Otherwise... HOW WOULD HE BREATHE?" I couldn't believe the level of ignorance.

Admittedly, there is more than one way not to have a nose. That argument is kind of valid, since Erik actually does have a nose of some sort, just not, well, the outer part; if he really didn't have a nose at all, the only way he'd be able to breathe would be through his mouth. So if somebody is completely unfamiliar with the description of Leroux Erik and only hears/sees the vague statement that he doesn't have a nose, they may react this way. Unless of course more detail is provided and they still think that way. I really hope it's not like that, I'm still trying desperately not to loose my faith in some basic human intelligence.

LOL! Well, okay... in fact, there have been cases that I've heard of where children are born without this or that and they die within a few minutes of being born, yes. But we would never have that argument with someone who wasn't at least a little bit into POTO... LOL.
Seriously, though, I don't think of the hole where the nose should be as a "nose" really. I think the nose is the fleshy piece. Of course, I'm no doctor, either....

Neither am I, so I don't really know what can be officially qualified as a nose - personally, I'm kind of willing to include nasal cavity, since it is NASAL, after all. But that's just me. At the moment I'm just trying to find a reasonable way of thinking which could lead to the conclusion that a noseless Erik couldn't breathe, really, because it killed me XD

This is lovely.. I never read Susan Kay's book (I will one day, though) but the sheer stupidity makes me cringe...ARGH! I mean..ARGH!!! how can anybody with a brain assume that?!
okay, rant over .. XD Sorry...
But I love this comic.
Definitly a fave. ^_^

gosh, thank you! I tried to get the point across in a humorous way... so I guess I achieved my goal!
BTW: I slightly despise Susan Kay's novel. True, it gave me some inspiration and provoked sad thoughts of what Erik's earlier life could've been like... but most of it just gave me a horrid ulcer.

You are very welcome and yes you certainly achieved your goal. ^_^
I still need to read it, so I wouldn't know but from what I now know it will probably give me a horrid ulcer too or a depression... or both... I hope not though....

Hey. I love your signature line... if you're still using it... the bit about <>
I'd like to make a Team Erik shirt, and the part beginning with "because" would be a great thing to put on the back. Would it bother you? It wouldn't be for profit or anything... just to wear.

Do you have a Zazzle account? I do. I could make them there and then it would be available to you, too. You know... maybe other people would buy them too. Of course, I've never made any money on my Zazzle account, but if all the sudden I did, I'd give you the portion from the Erik shirts.

Hi there!
Pardon me for just popping in on your otherwise private and undisturbed conversation, but I've got to say that it (Kay's novel) will most likely give you an ulcer and if you are at all empathetic or even sympathetic, it'll probably give you depression too. I just thank G-d every day that I was on an airplane when I finished it because they don't let you have sharp objects up there. All the same, I still considered hanging myself with the Punjab airline blanket, but the ceiling wasn't high enough to actually kill me. But yeah... even the parts that were well-written were just plain awful for other reasons.

braindamage-1990 In reply to BldngHrtCnsrvtv [2009-04-07 09:12:33 +0000 UTC]
Oh wow. I'm already putting off reading the original novel for the exact same reason, not that it's not well written or anything, but I am very sensetive when it comes to sad books, I am REALLY empathetic and sometimes I am down for days after it. I wish I could just read a book and say: Well that was good, a bit sad in the end, but oh well, life goes on.
Thanks for the warning. I will probably get a copy one day, just like I have a copy of PotO, but if I ever get the courage to read it, is an entirly different matter.

BldngHrtCnsrvtv In reply to braindamage-1990 [2009-04-07 11:48:57 +0000 UTC]
Well, now, the ORIGINAL is very sad, yes, but as Leroux doesn't get very close to Erik's thoughts, there are only a few places that are really heart wrenching. I felt sad enough after POTO to write some fanfiction that "fixed" the ending in my mind, but I felt like DYING after Kay, for whatever that's worth. But seriously, just read POTO with a therapist standing by or something because without reading it, you're TOTALLY missing out. It's really an amazing read. I've read it several times now and every time I go through it, I find something else new and wonderful.

Ahhh, too cute. Not to mention enlightening.
*My* pressing question is whether lacking the cartilage structures would be a handicap to singing...?

DarthxErik In reply to AdAbsurdum [2009-01-16 02:09:07 +0000 UTC]
I asked my father (a physician) the very same question!
He said it shouldn't hinder singing at all. If anything, it'd give more air passage through the nasal cavity. The only times a nose inhibits singing is when it's plugged up. Imagine if half of it was gone!

Next should be about French XIXth century. Women weren't allowed to sing in church choirs at Erik's time. If they did, it was wanton.

Bach and Handel weren't played in church during mass. It's like nowadays, are they played during mass ? Well not in France.
I was dumbstuck when I heard this ( and it's sure, it was in a classical radio talk show about music in XIXth century.)
