Couple days ago I posted some nordic & viking inspired character designs on Twitter me and CactusMaki came up with, so I just had to draw my new stable boy Asael and his icelandic horse Gutti

I didn't want to spend too much time on this so I delibarately left out shadows and lighting but I hope it still looks like a complete illustration ; v ; Oh and since we thought these characters live in an era where there's no electricity and little to no globalisation, I tried to design the tack so it looks homemade but still functional when taking to account the materials and techniques people might have had or had not in that time!

Asael's family has raised icelandic horses in their home village for many generations, so it was only natural for Asael to inherit all the skills & responsibilities required to take care of them. Being a breeder wasn't his dream when he was little, though. Asael dreamed of becoming a warrior, a true viking instead, going on adventures with his two best friends, Brigid and Rune. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be, since Asael hurt his right eye and became half blind, which automatically made him undesirable warrior candidate by his village's standards. Asael lost his dear dream and watched as his friends were still chasing after theirs, drifting further and further away from him.

Eventually Asael's father convinced him to try riding and doing some chores at their stable, so that the son wouldn't feel so lonely. Luckily it worked and Asael grew attached to their fluffy horses, especially his father's favorite sire Guttormur. When the father knew Asael was ready, he let him have one of Guttormur's foals. Asael named the foal Gutti and trained him by himself from the very start. Together Asael and Gutti are like two peas in a pod. They bring out the best sides of themselves. They're very active and a widely known couple in the village and often entertain the passerbys by tölting past them. Gutti is quite the charmer too and looks for every opportunity to show-off, especially to mares, so it wouldn't be too easy for Asael to ride and keep an eye on him.

That sums up Asael and Gutti for now. Can't wait to start roleplaying with them!
