Description
STEP BY STEP for my b.u.g. concept [link]I was lucky to hold 3 PSD files of that concept so i was able to gather enough material for logical steps.
the first pic is a quick sketch generated in ALCHEMY
it all started from there
i simply love to fantasize and interpret shapes

apart from all the other things you keep teaching me, i think i need to learn how to make things subtle and delicate while still being tough. I seem to just whack down shapes and they're big and bulky and in yourface.
this is really cool. something more to study. Cheers!

its just a matter of scale you want to achieve. have a HUGE metal globe and add a tiny valve or hatch and youll see what happens

dasAdam In reply to shinypants [2009-07-02 06:37:29 +0000 UTC]
is that so? then do the following. resize the image to 300%, zoom in and add a detail. dont worry about the image being pixealted and blurry.you didnt resize it to rework the whole image but only too be able to paint with a thinner brush.

yeah, probably the color picker should be there, but i really only use it to sketch in black and white... so i really don't miss it

I used to play with legos too!(whattam I talkin about? I still do!) But it's interesting to see you're entire process. I noticed up to the fith step you changed the arms to rails. Nothing wrong with it I'm just curious. Man I wish I had your photoshopping skills!

dasAdam In reply to Omnivault [2009-07-01 09:06:04 +0000 UTC]
the arms kinda worked against the flow and disruppted the silhouette too much. they also looked too stiff so i stopped trying to save them and just cut them off
thanks. well why dont you get your own skills then?! just reach out and after time theyll be coming.
these are my skills 2 years ago

This is great! I love it. I really enjoy looking at how your idea evolves.
I got two questions: What is alchemy and does it work similar to photoshop?
And in step six to seven, how do you add that dim reflection? Ok see, when I do digital drawings (Pathetic digital drawings) I generally start the whole thing in b&w and then I add a layer which I set it in "multiply" so I can add colour without going over the black lines.
But you dont seem to do that. How did you add the colour to this?
I'm sorry, I'm just following the idea of "Learn from the masters"
Great work!

dasAdam In reply to carnivore-art [2009-06-30 09:42:12 +0000 UTC]
there are 2 options to get it done.
first is: you simply choose the desired color and paint it in with one quick stroke and erase unneeded areas using a mask (more secure way since you can alter it any time)
second: you use different layer blending modes. sometimes you can get neat results with OVERLAY and COLOR DODGE.
but be aware .when only using this method you will never learn which colors to choose by your own and you end up depending on effects too much
I added color with the COLOR BALANCE effect layer and set its blending option to COLOR. this way i can tint my greyscale piece without changing the its values! thats pretty important.
dont hesitate to ask if something is still unclear

That's a pretty interesting method of getting from point a to b. It's really neat to look between the images and try to decipher your thought process between each.
I stared at the first image and actually thought to myself, "How can anyone go from this to this?"
Very, very cool. I'm interested to try something like this now myself.
