A cosmic horror emerging from the mistSince this painting has gone viral, with numerous people claiming all kinds of dumb shit about it, some clarifications are in order:
It is a digital painting over a photo, done in Photoshop. The original photo was taken from Google, the location is a highway near Sofia, Bulgaria.

Lovecraft made his own mythology, and it went viral through his stories long before the internet was even thought of, before "going viral" was even a thing. The Cthulu mythos spread to the point there were rare book dealers (legitimate businessmen) trying to find a copy of the Necronomicon (a book of occult lore that Lovecraft also made up as part of his mythology, and "quoted" in several stories) without realizing it had never existed.Β

Depends a bit on what you like. It's creepy, "classic" horror (mostly short stories and novelettes). So, if you like that genre at all, you'll probably enjoy it. No graphically detailed bloody scenes of debauchery and dismemberment, no deep psychological dissections of motives (1920s, remember) ... a lot of them are sort of like journals of discovery as the protagonist gradually comes to the realization that behind what we see as reality lies this indescribable horror waiting to manifest itself in the waking world. Like say, if you like creepy stories at all, you'll probably enjoy these. Worth checking out at least one story. The link someone else posted takes you to a short-ish story that sort of introduces Cthulu. (Lovecraft wrote a LOT of non-Cthulu stories, but they are less well known.)

So this is where it came from...When I first saw it, I didn't even think it was a photo manipulation. I had thought it was an actual photo someone caught of a multi-vortex tornado coming over a hill that just happened to look like Cthulhu. Anyways, nice work! :3
