And now she stands, pulling her tattered dress about her; mustering some defiant dignity. For in this moment she is free, with no shackles about her wrists or collar about her throat. If nothing else the knight's sacrifice has bougt her this brief moment, doomed as it may be.

This piece forms something of a contemplative interlude in the narrative- the calm before the storm. You may see from the rubbed-out lines that I was going to have the encroaching demons in the background, but I find it more moving with her standing alone.
