Speedpaint: youtu.be/X2cOVPPAn0UHappy Halloween, spooky folks! Here's my picture for this special day, finally something dedicated in time and not in advance.
First I thought of dressing up more characters in costumes, like Arakyria as Mimi and Somnifer as Count Bleck, both from Super Paper Mario because of a certain person's comments about them. But then I thought I should do something a little spookier than that (frankly the idea of Arakyria with Mimi's dress sounds adorable~), and this came to mind. I said before that her fingertips and eyes can glow in the dark so I figured I should illustrate that.
I was gonna draw a more detailed, albeit blurred background, maybe of a library, but I had no idea how to do it and I wanted to post this today. Maybe I'll add it later if I figure it out. So here it is, Arakyria's venomous touch!

My goodness, she looks absolutely beautiful. I have no words to express how gorgeous this is. I'm just in awe at the beautiful contrast in colors and how she reaches out to the viewer, as if asking to take her hand. This is amazing, well done!

I gotta learn how to do backgrounds tho... I was thinking I could show how Somnifer's library kinda looked here, but I just couldn't figure it out...

As for backgrounds, I struggle with those too - but I find starting with a concept sketch helps and figuring out what perspective I want to begin with. Just getting the composition set up and then blocking out with base color shapes - it's also easier if you're working with rectangles which can be easily set up with the selection tool and you can use skew to shift their angles - so a library ought to lend itself well to that unless it's a quirky building with curved walls. I've seen plenty of those too.
