Who founded the species in history? I can't say Benjamin Franklin. It's actually William Gilbert, thanks, Mentalfloss.
But if I want to portray about this in MLP on who founded the bug, it's gotta be Nikola Tesla when he discovered the bug was nearing one of his wire coils in his workshop, attempting to kill the bug only results in getting zapped back, hence he discovered the Tesla Coil. He dubbed it under his name but since he was busy with electrical inventions, he forgot to patent or trademark the name and hence somepony else took the name Twitterbug when I can imagine if could have been Teslabug.

Probably not, I agree, it's so dangerous than the parasprites, if it reaches Canterlot, it's already armaggeddon, imagine if the bugs breed even more, the entire Equestria would probably would be nothing but a wasteland and even the bugs themselves would die too.
