Lero was STOKED to enter this event.
That seemed much more like their element than perfectly-groomed-slick-back-hair-dressage - although the event was fun and a great experience too. Although the results left him questioning his future plans. In fact - he didn't have any. And that was stressing him now. Never before in his life has he considered doing dressage. And now, here he was.
- Accidentally getting into owning an Obertaurer, which is bonded to you for life.
- Making a silly bet about entering a dressage event, while neither he nor Keith had ANY prior experience
- And on top of that: THEY FREAKING WON FIRST PLACE.
Now if that didn't leave you questioning your future, he didn't know what would. Apparently his horse had some great potential that was mostly undiscovered yet as they just started their journey together. Hekk, they were still growing, far from a perfect duo. And it was NEVER his intention to start a dressage career.
But was he living up to Keith's potential then?
A scary question which he couldn't answer on the spot.
The Equi-Alpin Hohentauern event was a welcomed reason to not have to think about that for a bit.
Snow was his element. He's spent months in the snowy wilderness of Alaska and Canada, hiking and touring with his snowboard strapped on his back. Making large tours with sleigh dogs. He loved the feeling of freedom it gave him, no matter how challenging it was. He felt most alive at those times.
As Lero let Keith out of the trailer, he was tenser than usual. The grey stallion looked around, taking audible deep breaths with flared nostrils, hot air leaving them. It left Lero worried for a second, as he didn't know that behavior from him. But just a moment later, Keith did some happy bucks and Lero even had to let go of his halter all while laughing. "You're home, boy!" Keith's joy was contagious and Lero joined the fun.
His companion's happy dance wasn't the only reason for Lero's good mood though. He'd finally get to see someone special again and that already made his heart going a beat faster.

The Super-G sure was a challenging track.
Lero hasn't ever done anything like this before. On snowboard? Easy cheesy! But on the back of a horse? Bareback? Totally different story. But MAN was he excited for it.
Keith was LOADED with energy. The wild caught Obertaurer has never seemed to be more motivated. It was in his blood. Snow was his element just as well.
As the signal cued their start, the stallion didn't need much pushing to leap into canter right away. His surefootedness was extraordinary. Even when he seemed to slip, the stallion quickly balanced and corrected his position, pushing forward through the deep snow like a bulldozer.
Lero wasn't only grinning because of the adrenaline rush (also from knowing that he was awaited at the finish line), but because he's never felt so unified with Keith before. They started their journey on foreign ground, neither of them was confident in it. But now, they shared the same element, the same excitement and same passion. Everything just clicked into place and that feeling was fuelling the both of them.
Going easy on that difficult route?
Never.
