Sherlock is an Afghan Hound (hard to train because they’re TOO SMART & very cat-like) Their natural coat is short and shaggy.

John is a chow/german shepherd mix, loyal protective and brave but it’s hard to earn their trust.

And Lestrade is their beleaguered owner. I even wrote a ficlet to go with it. BEHOLD:

Once upon a time in London…

There was a great detective named Greg Lestrade. And he in turn had a great and brilliant dog named Sherlock. Sherlock, was far more genius than most humans and thus he was bored all the time. Night after night Lestrade would return home to find many experiments done on the durability of his furniture and shoes.

“Sherlock, you can’t keep doing this,” said Lestrade, distressed.

“Failed to solve another case I see,” Sherlock replied, in his incomprehensible dog way, sitting among the remnants of the ruined couch. “How very expected.”

Lestrade (again) decided Sherlock needed some company and (again) took him to the local shelter to see if (this time) there was another dog who they (Sherlock) could get along with.

Mike met them at the door, more than familiar with the other man’s plight. “We have one who may work though. You could foster him for a bit, see if Sherlock likes him?”

The sad shaggy dog raised his head from his paws when he saw them, tail laying still and shoulder still bandaged. “This is John.” Mike said, introducing them. Sherlock looked down his long nose at him, blue eyes unusually bright.

“Shot. By a perpetrator, no longer with your family. Your handler was killed? No. Shot and too injured to care for you. You couldn’t save him. But you tried. Admirable. Strange you were shot, as you normally do victim recovery…”

“That’s amazing,” said John, eyes wide and tail wagging, “How did you know?”

Sherlock smiled mysteriously and ignored the question. “The name is Sherlock and you’re coming to live in my flat.”
