Oh god... it reminds me of those creepy beaked things from The Dark Crystal. That movie gave me so many nightmares when I was a kid...

Have to ask; do you do this professionally, like for movie studios? If not, you should...

omg, love the part were you just so modestly and calmly say
"...doing at lunch break."

your skills are fantastic! not only would it be an effort for me to draw something like that from imagination, but to model it...in your spare lunch break...

you really do have the dexterity of chuck norris!

its the truth. your clay modelling skills hit you harder in the face then chuck norris...

even with that almighty pube beard that he so proudly wears, i would have to say your hands know so much more in the discipline of kung fu. the application is just different

Awesome job.

I eventually want to make a kind of plaque with arms and wings with the claws open for a candle holder.

mattroper In reply to DaveGrasso [2008-12-06 05:32:06 +0000 UTC]

That sounds like a cool idea. Be sure to post the final product.

I'd really love to see it. You've got some strong sculpture work.

I need to practice doing more sculpture. It's really fun-quite visceral and it seems more active and in touch with the body than drawing.

I tend to draw more than I sculpt.
How often do you work in sculpture?

JMonsterDesign In reply to mattroper [2009-07-03 19:36:20 +0000 UTC]

Drawing is an art, just lime anything else, knowing how to project anatomy on a 2d paper while making it look 3 dimensional means that you are in touch with the bodies various shapes.... just fyi

mattroper In reply to JMonsterDesign [2009-07-04 02:10:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, I definitely agree with you. And doing the two in tandem helps one to learn a lot because they both inform the other.
Thanks for the comments.

DaveGrasso In reply to otsegolectrice [2008-12-05 20:51:57 +0000 UTC]

That's a resin sphere that I casted. I have a mold of different size spheres for models or maquettes.

This is Chavant clay.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mattroper In reply to DaveGrasso [2008-12-05 21:15:59 +0000 UTC]

Does chavant clay air dry? I hear that's nice clay to work worth that many people in movie fx use.

I've used WED clay before and I really loved the smooth plasticity of it. So I'm wondering about chavant clay and where I can get some.

I had to drive 120 miles to get to the nearest WED clay supplier.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaveGrasso In reply to mattroper [2008-12-05 21:55:39 +0000 UTC]

Chavant is oil based and won't dry out. Check their website, you can order samples to see which type you might like.
