I saw this sculpture in another deviant's favorites, loved the dynamic musculature, so I clicked to look at it larger.
It wasn't until I looked again at the full-size image that I realized he had a second face visible. Well done!

this is really cool, what sort of scale is it? ive got a lump of green chavent medeium clay but i find getting that kind of detail really difficult. also do you have a armature in this model, or do you use pure clay?

Oh yeah, always do an armature.

Its great even if I loved the old one more! looked a lot more mutated by the raw stuff of chaos.

Thanks, I like both for different reasons, but if I had to pick the fav. it would be the mutated one without a doubt.

it was wayyyy better! but I really liked the vertebra coming out of the back of the second one! the first one with the back of the second. that would have been awesome.
My Girlfriend approves!

That's always the frustrating part. If it's a good idea then not so bad once you get into the flow of it. If it's not a good design change then you just want to beat whomever's responsible with a steel bat( usually a producer who has no artistic background whatsoever). Most of the stuff you see in a film that looks like shit is usually the producer's or studio's fault.

Man, I really dig this. Oh, and sorry about clay curiousity in my other comment...didn't realize you'd already said what it was.
You're phenominal artist, Mr.G.

Not quite as unorthodox, but I guess you have to make compromises if you're going for a recognizable mythological figure. So does the spine go straight down the back?

DaveGrasso In reply to Hypogeum [2010-02-08 08:42:36 +0000 UTC]
Spine fades off at lower back. Also part of Barlowe design.

Hypogeum In reply to DaveGrasso [2010-02-08 09:26:12 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I meant position, not length. It seems as if the spine leans heavily towards Yrdrig's left as it goes down from the photo and I was wondering if this is actually the case.

That is Chavant NSP medium which is sort of the standard clay everyone uses in this field. Also comes in green.

Oh cool, thanks. I'm just getting into sculpting, making my first character maquette at school (in super sculpey), so it's interesting to see what everyone is using.

I'm currently selling my Nosferatu model kit a Nocturna Productions. Most of the stuff I have on hear are film work and I don't have copies of.
