Description This is still a work in progress. It's a redesign of the Creature from the black lagoon a very badly mutated creature part man part aquatic life.
I've been using this as a bit of a test bed to see what level of finish I can achieve before I go mad.

It has a wire armature and is built out of super sculpy and stands roughly 8" at the shoulders. If you would like to see some of the early process pictures I will be posting them on my Blog [link]

You probably have gotten this in past comments, but it's very reminiscent of "The Thing" to me personally. It's very scary and neat haha.

Nice work sir!
On the Super sculpey baking -
200 degrees for 45 mins is good.
Then turn off oven, and LEAVE INSIDE with door open for an hour.
This slow cooling prevents it from cracking.

Again that's effin amazing lol how long would you bake this for? just wondering because of the thin bits, i have a tendency to burn em haha.

firecrow78 In reply to Jadepotatoe [2011-06-27 14:16:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks glad you like it. Same thing happens to me I forget to check on it and it turns black. I would bake it for longer on a lower temp and cover thinner parts in wet kitchen towel as they will bake much quicker then other thicker parts.

Oh wow thats a great idea thanks. but knowing me the towel would burn haha

keep up the great work.

Just remember, lower temp for longer is better for sculpey. You can always boil it in a big pan. It cures better this way, I find it has less chance of cracking as the heat is more evenly distributed around the sculpt. The only down side is that it ends up turning chalky white, but if your painting it, it makes no difference to the details.

didn't know that either. actually boiling sounds like the best option. does it change the clay in any way other than color?

Yes, I REALLY like this. Like the comment below, I enjoy this take on the creature because it's simply a quadriped form and having no direct relation to any other animal or creature. I think it's a great take on the creature from the Black Lagoon and it's sculpted with incredible detail. Really, this stuff is just awesome.
