Description Finally finished....

and it's my first drawing for 2012.

I started working on this piece about an year ago. It's funny.... no actually it's just ridiculous 'cause this is an A4 size drawing.

I wanted to do something really .... but really realistic... I knew from the beginning it'd take a long time until I got to see the final result.
so I finish the face as u can see on the wip below:

(btw I'll see if I can do a gif from every step of this drawing and replace it for the actual wip)

As I was saying I finish the face and thought that the forest would be too complicated to draw. So I got coward and let it unfinish for a very long time. Which it wasn't good cause the drawing started to lose some shadows, it's notable if u look closely.

Anyway the trees turn out to be pretty easy to do. The same happen with fur... when in my past works I had to do a fur coat I got too scare but it was surprisingly easy. O.o

The final result is a mix from this photo:
+

I didn't ask for permission and I'm kinda felling bad about it. Anyway if I get reported I already know what went wrong.

Hope you like it.

if it was...cheaper. I would find money. I'm 12 and only have $30 but would really like an inspirational large photo print or possibly canvas print and I only have 30 dollars but eventually I'd be able to...

yeah well you're really sweet and everything... but it's not the first time i put a drawing on print sale by requesting and eventually no one buys it!
So .. unless you're a seriously buyer I'm sorry but I won't put this on sale...

thank u again, you're a sweet heart... if eventually u put the enough money to savings I'll make it available if u still want to!

How do you achieve that grainy skin texture? Do you just dot the entire thing with something that has graphite on it in conjunction with a pointed eraser? It looks really awesome.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DaveLopes In reply to Ecruteak [2012-04-19 21:13:16 +0000 UTC]

well to be honest I think part of that texture is from the paper xD
but I usually shade everything I can....make it look like dolly and then I add the texture - some of the highlights I pull it with the eraser, very carefully and some just appear by adding the dark part.
I don't really know if u understand me. I rlly would like to help more. I'm always thinking about doing a tutorial to help other artists that want to improve.

But if u are into doing realistic portraits I rlly can give u a tip that really helped me to actually anchive my goal.
When u are doing something, if it's an eye, the skin, eyebrow, hair... u need to focus on parts - a part at a time.
Focus on one area and until it looks EXACTLY like the reference, u don't leave it.
So imagine, u made a mistake, u can see it's a little too dark, do it again, erase it. It needs more shade, that shape could be more alike. It's all about focus, and actually wanting to make it right!

But I think I'm gonna probably do a Hyper-realistic tutorial. Some of things I learn from other artits but must of the process I've to learn it by myself. I made many mistake through my years of hyper-realistic drawings that I'm willing to show and analyse with the community.
Many artists on DA, aren't willing to help others anchieve realistic as well. Mostly because it's everything they're and they are not willing to share. Since I wanna become an artist, a real artist - I'm not gonna focus any carrer I could have in portraits and anything that came across with that.
Yes, drawing realistic is awesome, but they're only good exercises - that was art many centuries ago. Not right now, where everything that actually has valour comes from imagination. This is my point of view.

Sorry about the long text. Anything else u would like to ask more, be guest!

Fantastic advice and I agree wholeheartedly. The reason I learn and it seems that you learn to reproduce photos is to gain knowledge and skill in order to apply it something that's imaginative! A tutorial would be awesome.: D What kind of paper do you use by the way?xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DaveLopes In reply to Ecruteak [2012-07-02 12:24:37 +0000 UTC]

yeah I believe in that (:
I think everyone should stay in that track too (:
Oppss... I don't know the name! I bought it in a store they sold me separately.
But try the watercolor paper... I remmember using and actually liking it! It's smooth and it has a nice texture. (:
