Description I always thought that ST ships are alwas overlighted. Okay, we need to actuall see the ships on screen but IMHO this is how the deep space scenes should have been done.

I wish I could fave something twice. Still love this every time I see it on my favorites slide show...

I'd have to agree with you're statement for lighting on ST ships. On another note, I really wish that this class was featured more in DS9 in battles, oh well.

I have to agree. The Ambassador was a really nice design, it's a shame we only saw her two or three times.

This is a great 'TMP' style picture. Really gets across that 'in the deep dark' feeling that was lacking in later films & shows... like the hideously fuzzy blue Ent-D in early TNG.

There is this ages-old ongoing question on why are Trek ships are always so brighly illuminated.

Ah, if it was stated that USS Hero-Ship was in a system... no problem.

It was when it was supposed to be 25 light-years from the nearest sun that it gave me a headache. Come ON!

Like all those scenes when the 1701-D was nose to nose with the Borg Cube or a Warbird -- at a distance of 200 meters.

The over-illumination of starships in sci-fi shows is a common theme. Also, when the ships are *supposed* to be hundreds or thousands of kilometers apart, but appear to the viewer to be only a few hundred feet away, is another common problem. YES, we need to see the ships without squinting too hard, but it bugs people like me.

Accurate illumination/contrast as well as proper perspective shouldn't be *that* hard for the visual effects guys, especially with modern computers.

Oh, and YAY for the Enterprise-C!

(I always felt Ambassadors were mix between Galaxy and Constitution, not Galaxy and Excelsior. Excelsiors are too funky looking )

agreed, really well done. the only thing looking a little uncommon is the blue-shining phaser-strip at the nacelle-pylon

Thanks. I don't know why the phaser shines, the shine came with the mesh...

I definately like your lighting effect here, can't wait to see you do the other ships in the same style.

i always thought the Ambassador class was weird looking. a mix of Excelsior and Galaxy. nice job with the lighting though. you should try that with other ships

Thank you Yeah, the Ambassador is an intermediate design between the two...

if you can, you should try with: Akira, Miranda, or Constitution refit

davemetlesits In reply to LittleFoxStudio [2007-11-17 00:31:46 +0000 UTC]

Well... It was long but only because I was watching Domino Day while working with the test renders. It's actualy not a really big work as only minimal lighting is required.

i see, okay. you should still try that with other ships
