Description I modified my Polaris mesh to make it more accurate. Revisions include:

- the nacelles (lower curvature and length)

- the impulse crystal (now with its outer "cage")

- the three lights on the "deck 2" module (they were a bitch to make)

- the insets on the lower saucer (now of proper bevelling and colour)

Thank you very much for all the suggestions!

Dave this is the best pic of you ship to date. Question: any chance of 3-view schematics? I really would like to do a datasheet on this ship!!

you know this just came to me. If the Polaris had a secondary hull like the Enterprise's she would basically be a federation built version of the Challenger from the New Earth book series. was she your inspiration?

davemetlesits In reply to wingzero-01-custom [2009-12-26 01:43:28 +0000 UTC]

I don't know that series. The Polaris has a smaller hull than the Enterprise, smaller than half the size.

I realize that by looking at your pictures of her, I just noted the similarities of the design if you look in my ships and mechs folder on my profile you'll find a pic I drew in high school of the Composite Frigate Challenger. her story is very different in the regards that she was built from the wreckage of three other TMP era starships (note this happens shortly before Checkov transfers to the Reliant).

i agree unfortunately the Challenger is never mentioned again after the two books Diane Carey wrote about her and that really sux cause i would love to have gotten to know her crew better than that.

She truly is a beauty! Now you gotta do a shot like this of your TNG version as well, that is if you want of course, not wanting to impose or anything *begs*!

One day, I'll completely re-do that one, too, from scratch. That one was just a test run just to learn some new techniques.

What you call test runs... well... damn!

I learned doing the lines/grids on the hull, multi-polygon window building and a next level of texturing while building that mesh. It helped me building the TMP and the JJ Polaris.
