Then something rose up in the water.Β  It towered over man and child, and as the ocean fell away from it, it revealed smooth surfaces that glittered and writhed.Β  The world was bathed with light, and George saw it plain.Β  And yet, he could not later recall much detail.Β  It was as though his mind refused entry to this monstrous thing, substituting other imagesβ€”maggots winking from the eye sockets of some dead animal, flesh growing on a ruined structure of rusted metalβ€”and while, in memory, those images were horrible enough and would not let him sleep, another part of his mind shrank from the knowledge that he had confronted something more hideous and ancient than his reason could acknowledge.

But George Hume’s eyes saw, instead, the waiting ocean and under it, a shape, a moving network of cold, uncanny machinery, and whether it was a living thing of immense size, or a city, or a machine, was irrelevant.Β  He knew only that it was ancient beyond any land-born thing.

- William Browning Spencer, The Ocean and All Its Devices

Quite thoroughly WTF. I can't even begin to figure out this creatures anatomy, it's like an evil alien rainbow of weird. Awesome!

I wouldn't stand there, lady.

Hahaha oh man... this is fantastic! Before I sculpted for displaying my creations, I used plasticine to make creatures to play with. Once I had made every "normal" creature I could think of, I'd usually make something that looks like this. A lot like this, actually. +fav

I know I've said it before, but I'm sure I'll say it again: this may be my favorite thing you've done so far. Wow, everything about this creauture looks intimidating and toxic, even those brightly striped tentacles at lower left with their subliminal conch/coneshell associations. Even the title is perfect, capturing that sense of forgotten organisms from the submarine realm finally returning to take back what's theirs. The amorphous quality of the body makes it appear very Lovecraftian, like a Shoggoth or Flying Polyp. Actually strikes me as a much more fully realized and effective version of what I was going for with ([link] ), in fact!
