Wow, this a great interpretation of the Freudian concept!

The super ego is not the greatest. I don't think we can say that. Well it's the ideal self that the world would accept, it's the universal, it's the best for people. But let's say that Nietzsche would be angry to see that he is bigger than the others, if you see what I mean.

very nice, you obviously put thought into your artwork (unlike me!)...

You have visually expressed the three characters very well. This is a rich and exquisite piece!

Thanks - I've already started transferring it to a canvas, and altering it slightly, so hopefully the painting will turn out better than the digital version.

OH I thought that WAS the painting... sorry! Yes, will surely make a gorgeous painting. So you work first digitally? then paint.?

I always start out with a pencil drawing, but I find it's much quicker to scan the original sketch and add colour in photoshop than it is to produce a painting. Ideally I'd like to paint everything I do, but at the moment I just don't have the time (I'm currently stuck in a dull office job and only get to paint at the weekends!)

This is a good plan, I guess I never thought of it until now. Why not? You are a wise person!

Thanks - you seem to work a lot in pencil - try adding extra layers of flat colour on photoshop and then either weaken the layer's opacity or change the layer property (soft or hard light work well, as they don't cover the texture of the pencil below) - it's like being able to make a quick watercolour painting out of a drawing!

Cheers! I like to think of the medieval period as being a rich era for surrealist art - even though the term hadn't been invented by that point! Much of the art and mythology of the medieval period came directly from the unconscious mind, from dreams, hallucinations, religious visions and the like. In many ways the Surrealist movement itself went against the grain of popular culture in the 1920's and 30's - while the rest of the world was becoming obsessed with the modern age, they were essentially re-branding a tradition of spontaneous, irrational and revelatory art that can be traced back as far the first cave paintings.

I've always loved the middle ages...Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel....ect ect...and The surrealists have always captured my imagination...I could almost say literally...like my conscious mind had been sucked into Jungs Collective Unconscious.

Excellent!
Love how you embodied the psychological concepts in this one!

Thanks. The meaning behind each of the characters didn't strike me until I'd finished the picture. Maybe I'm just super-imposing Freudian terminology on an otherwise meaningless drawing. Then again, maybe Freud's 'holy trinity' of the human psyche is something deeply ingrained in us all - read into it what you like!
