thank you Kat.. it's actually the reason i tend to make the bump maps a bit more exaggerated aswell, although you can tone these down if you want to do a close up just by altering the intensity of them in the tab...if they're too low you don't pick as much up from a distance..

You're very welcome, Dave! I know what you mean about having to exaggerate the details

to make sure they translate from a distance. It's better to go exaggerated and people have

the option to dial to back the intensity for close-ups, rather than characters only looking good

from a specific distance because there isn't enough information in the maps to increase the

intensity without distortion. If the maps are created with exaggerated detail, there's much

more predictable results when you play with the intensity, at least that's what I've found with

my projects.

thank you.. i think with every sculpt and project you get a better understanding of how things work and look...workflow speeds up when you get to grip with things..although i still adopt the option of not having a plan...see where the sculpt takes me and just work from there...i hate planning things out...better to just go with the flow..
