I like the potential in this piece and the character looks charming and the cartoony style.
but the shading is a little off.. Shading with black and then lowering the opacity of the shading layer looks really messy. Instead, try making the base color a little darker and slightly shift it to (for example in the hair) red, and same goes with the highlights, except you make the color a little lighter.
You can also try to make a new layer and set the blending mode to lumi or shade.
I hope you wont take this as an insult, but as a tip instead.
