New pic for today. This episode marked the first apperance of the D'deridex warbird. Truth be told, I was never a fan of the original TOS Romulan ships. Looked so flimsy and shoddy to my eyes. But this thing changed my perception of Romulan designs. It looked like it could haul some real arse and kick the Galaxy to submission. Big, powerful and beautiful, can't go wrong with that epic stuff.Credits on the image.

I like the original ships. They do not look any more flimsy to me than the Enterprise. Although the "strangeness" of the design was due to it being based on the Enterprise. (A disc with two nacelles.) The Warbird was designed from scratch to be Romulan, so as you mention, it is very imposing. I also like how the hull protects the nacelles. One thing that always bugged me about Federation ships is the nacelles being exposed to enemy fire and set on the ends of thin pylons. Even those who do not like the Warbird must admit that it is an iconic Star Trek symbol.
