Great shot, what IR filters do you use?

I can't afford the hoya versions so i'm trying to find a good cheap option like the no-name ones from China.

This was shot with a Kood R72 filter - less than half the price of Hoya

I love the IR colors here... the only thing that I am not comfortable with is the hmm.. how do you say that in english :/ .. is it "tilt" ?? not straight
I think it would be top affter getting it straght (horizon line)

Great image m8,whats tha deal with infrared?how do you make it?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

DavidCraigEllis In reply to rodgah [2009-01-15 18:17:25 +0000 UTC]

Thank you

Right - to make infrared images you need 1) an infrared filter (like the Hoya R72) 2) a DSLR which can 'see' infrared light, ie one without a hotmirror on the sensor (the old Nikon D70 is a good example).

At one end of the visable light spectrum you have 'invisible' ultraviolet light and at the other end you have 'invisable' infrared - what the IR filter does is block most of the normal 'visable' spectrum but allows through the infrared.

There are tutorials here on DA and lots of stuff like that on the web if youre interested

Oh uau! What a photograph!
It's brilliant!

I just bought the cokin p007 infrared yesterday and my first shots were pure crap!! Damn it! So many flares plus you could see the filter reflected on some shots. I am so disappointed. I wish I could do something as incredible as this or your "Still Waters". They're amazing! I'm just wondering if the filter I bought is really lame or is it my fault...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

DavidCraigEllis In reply to damien-c [2008-05-14 00:15:09 +0000 UTC]

the cokin 007 is a good filter, its one of three different types i use. The trick is not to use it on the normal cokin filter holder as light leaks into the gap between the holder and the lens. I just screw the metal mount that the filter holder attaches to onto the front of the lense and then use apair of bulldog clips to attach the filter so theres no gap
