David needs to move in a more progressive area where he can express himself more freely if he's getting death threats. No one will know where he moved unless he reveals a general location via social media through his photography or a post.

Where have you gone? I loved your work so much and you've suddenly disappeared off the face of the earth from everything like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and even your artworks aren't visible on here with a message saying new ones would be up soon but that was in 2015
no explanation I can seem to find anywhere so if you are still active is there somewhere else on the internet I don't know about or...? We miss you!

I just noticed the same thing. Only thing I found was a death threat on Tumblr... I really hope he is OK, perhaps he just wants to play it safe by not doing this anymore. I find it really sad.

Is this a picture of a pacific islander of some kind? I just ask, because of the facial tattoos.

Kind of seems a bit like ta moko (Maori tattoos) but a bit minimal.

I suspected Maori too. Incidentally, lower jaw/lip tattoos are reserved for Maori women, the men have extensive facial tattoos. In which case, this guy might be intended to be gay two-spirit?

I was thinking the same as yes the tattoos more for women. Wonder if the artist will explain more one day?

I am aware that some first nation cultures have a tradition known as 2 spirit. A homosexual or trans tribe member is justified as having both a male and female spirit, and sometimes they are given the roles/clothes of the opposite gender. Hence, female lip tatoo = gay Maori guy maybe?

There is takatāpui which is kind a word/meaning that encompasses sexuality in Maori culture, but it doesn't really cover a dual gender spirit concept (at least I don't remember if it does or not) I also do not recall any legends, myths, or stories that speak of a 2 spirit within the Maori. However, there could be one I'm not aware of lol
While jaw tattoos are more reserved for women per say, those are usually reserved for the chin area rather than the whole jaw. Men can have them on their jaws and not their entire face/lower face.
Either way, the mysterious nature of this character's story is kind of alluring to say the least. I wonder if it is moko or merely kirituhi, a Maori style tattoo.
The character could merely be Samoan - Polynesian? (However, their ink is usually on their arms...)
So many questions!

I only really said it, because it has appeared numerous times in various tribal cultures, including Native American and Aboriginal (apparently). It is mostly absent from African tribal culture, though a shaman who contains the spirit of a deceased woman can take a male lover.
Some tribal cultures simply don't view homosexuality as all that unusual, Papua New Guineans often engage in it and regard it no different from straight sex. I have no idea if there is any equivalent of this in Maori culture.

Quite a few cultures do have a dual gender spirit concept (multiple Asian cultures do as well). I just don't recall many stories or legends about it specifically within the Maori culture and history. Then again, my memory of any legends and stuff is a bit wobbly so lol Don't hold my word as definite on this. There could be a saying or piece about it and I don't know of it.
Oh, there is a LGBT community within the Maori (which is again what takatāpui pertains to; basically speaking of a partner of the same sex). It's not considered taboo as it would by western culture.
It's also not as well known really. I mean it is within the Maori, but not really outside of it (I don't think anyway...)

I think it's great that really, we had the right idea hundreds or thousands of years ago, to be tolerant and make allowances for homosexuals. It's only when western religion came in that everything became homophobic. It makes me feel better about being gay myself, that perhaps basic human nature is not homophobic by default, only recent cultural changes (600 years or so).
I do like that Maoris have special sayings for so many things. I saw in a phrasebook once that some even applied to me, I am an only child so I could be referred to as "muttonbird's single egg" (that was the translation anyhow), haha
Perhaps I was wrong to assume that Maoris had two-spirit traditions just because a bunch of other first nations do, it was a generalisation.

I personally cannot see why anyone would be against homosexuality It's not evil, wrong, or bad... it's only misunderstood in a lot of ways. People seem to have this backwards view that it's somehow 'not normal' despite it being around for as long as we have.
It's more how the concept was portrayed and stuff that kind of made it taboo in the view of certain cultures. I was raised in a family where one half was homophobic and the other were pretty open about everything. Needless to say I kept on the more tolerant side lol Glad I did, I couldn't imagine living with a mind that picks and chooses for others. Not my thing. A lot of people are more tolerant than they let on initially so that's always a bit of hope.
Again, from a personal stand point, I think a lot of people see it as more off putting because it's 'different' than what was transcribed as 'average' -- as dictated by someone else; by people. It's not some great rule forged in a mountain somewhere that must be obeyed lol
Humans are awkward creatures, no?
Haha yes, that is true. There's a saying for almost everything! 'Almost' everything Spare for when you need one and then you forget them.
As I said, I can't be sure if there is one. I don't know of any but again, my memory and stuff of those things isn't so great lol I'll probably look more into it now because I am curious.
It's all good, I did enjoy having a chat about all this -- Not every day someone is interested about Maori culture and such! It's nice

I honestly find Maori culture and traditions really interesting. I have been to New Zealand only once, but some of what I learned was really interesting. Like the fact that the Maori have a name for where they lived before they came to New Zealand, but it's sort of a mythical country that no one knows exactly which island it is.
One other thing that I want to find out is any Maori tradition about the Moa. It is well known that the Maori hunted moas and used their feathers for cloaks (before switching to kiwis in historical times, and now emus from ranches), but I would love to know if they had memory or traditions of live ones when they were first met by the English settlers. Some myths of the Maori settlement of New Zealand say that moa meat was taken back to Hawaiki as proof that New Zealand was a good place to settle, but I wonder if this was added later to the story. I have spoken to Trevor Worthy, a New Zealand paleontologist who is an expert on Moas, and he said that when Maoris were shown moa bones by white archeologists during colonisation, they had no word for the animal, and just said that they were "big chicken bones". Hence we call them Moa now, because it is the Maori word for fowl or chicken. I dunno, it's all very interesting.
I honestly enjoyed our chat too. I agree that homosexuality really is just "different", people have a hard time with others being different for almost any reason, even more superficial ones than sexuality, but it is usually possible to see past it.
Incidentally, I was interested in stuff about the Maori because I am crazy about pretty much anything to do with New Zealand. I am born and raised in Australia, but I don't much like it here all being said, New Zealand seems a nicer place to live.
