Amazing work and I checked out their site. I'm so looking forward to this movie. I hope the animation is as good as your drawings. XD And I hope the music is catchy just like the old movies.

This is a wonderful drawing, and you capture the impending spirit of the film beautifully.

The comments on this drawing and Naveen's race have lead me to post a blog on why black people can't have nice things, though, which is good! I've been thinking about writing about my personal reaction to his color recently, and all of this unnecessary hoopla over his color has prompted me to do so.

Yay! I've been looking for a decent picture of prince Naveen since I learned about the movie and this is just amazing; better than what I could find!

I kinda wish they didn't show a picture of him though, so it'll be a surprise for everyone!

I love this! Absolutely lovely!

And it's about time they released some Naveen art! Hopefully we'll get a new trailer soon, too. :crosses fingers:

I'm trying to spread the word, too! (There's a facebook group - but it's teeny - only about 400) Disney Marketing really needs to step it up - even John Lasetter was saying so!

Thanks for all this Princess and the Frog Fanart! <3

I love Tiana's design, but Naveen looks a bit like a mix between Edward and Philip. I'll have to see how he is in the movie, because personality changes how you perceive appearance, too.

I LOVE the sketchy look of this, and they do make a cute couple!

Awww this absolutely melts my heart. Just an aside, I read somewhere (I think imdb messageboard) that Naveen is from some made up middle eastern country. It doesn't really matter to me though, as long as the Prince is in 2D I don't care. Anyway I can't wait for this film, the best thing is that as of now it's set to be released on my birthday!

Great work! I can't even find pictures of the prince to reference. I was thinking of doing a piece for The Princess and the Frog, but I can't find enough visual and textural reference to get a grasp on what's happening. I really wanna see the VooDoo witchdoctor!
And seriously, Disney needs to stop pandering and just create! They used to be edgier, but now... not so much. I suppose it's what they need to do. So I'll just enjoy their changes and let it go, much like many of their other portrayals of classic tales.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

davidkawena In reply to Jrockheaven [2009-03-18 20:52:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh, for all the latest of "The Princess and the Frig" and any other Disney related news, go to Disneylicious! ---> [link] They have some links to concept arts from the film, including, what I think is a very early stage design of Mama Odie, the Voodoo lady!

Disney did kind of lost they're way in the passed years... The last good thing put on was 'Home on the Range" and it wasn't that brilliant, although it was loveable and had some STUNNING visuals. I would gladly see more of that then, "Meet the Robinson's" or "Cars"!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jrockheaven In reply to davidkawena [2009-03-18 23:02:27 +0000 UTC]

Well, Meet the Robinsons is crack happy! And it did things that would be very difficult in a 2D environment. Cars... not so much. I could do without it. But I likes me some Incredibles & Meet the Robinsons! I didn't really like Home on the Range. The world isn't into "Rural America" as much as they were back in the 40's when Disney cashed in on walking, barnyard fodder.
I was quite pleased with the re-introduction of 2D animation with Enchanted. It was like a teaser for this project.
I think I'd be eternally in love if Disney started releasing their own collections of "Fractured Fairy Tales", but then, all Disney stories deviate from the originals, so in their own way, they're fractured, but in a clean it up kind of way.
Also, a recent gem of visuals was the Cinderella III: A Twist in Time. Perhaps I like it because it focuses on the Stepmother and Stepsisters, but it was a quality sequel. As well, Mulan II wasn't so bad either, though I've only ever watched it once on a rental.
Disney needs some new fantastic story writers. But then, Disney has never had a success from an original story 2D feature. Or am I forgetting something? Most everything is based on a book or a short story, or a derivation/spin-off of a preconceived work. I wouldn't mind some darkness in the 2D world of Disney. They always kill off their villains, but it's usually off camera, not that I think Disney should disembowel it's villains for the children, but it doesn't have to be a total cutaway.
I do miss the Art in Animation.

DamaNym [2009-03-18 18:25:31 +0000 UTC]

Lovely interpretation of the new but already loved couple.

Now, I must confess: I do not like so much his design, he basically reminds me of Prince Edward from Enchanted. Not only the smile, but the eyes and the face too. I don't want the new Disney classics to have all the designs from Enchanted. :shrugs: I don't dislike Enchanted, but it would be very unoriginal if Rapunzel looked like a blond Giselle.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

davidkawena In reply to DamaNym [2009-03-18 20:37:17 +0000 UTC]

I don't think he looks much like Edward, although they both have these puffy things on their shoulders, Naveen won't be wearing that outfit all through the film.

As for Rapunzel... Well, I just don't like the fact it will be a fully 3D rendered film! If Disney is going to add Rapunzel to the Princess line, she will look awful a and out of place if she will be 3D rendered and the rest 2D! Here's a big hope that they are NOT planning on making all the Princess as 3D for a new line! I think it'll make me loose my faith to the big D!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DamaNym In reply to davidkawena [2009-03-19 11:57:07 +0000 UTC]

Then I suppose those are their wedding outfits? It wouldn't make sense if they wore them before being transformed.

That's right. And, is it just me, or Disney can't stop obsessing over the Princess Franchise? First they created it and added Tinkerbell, then they went PC and added Poca and Mulan, and now, what, three princesses are coming in a row! Tiana, Rapunzel and Merida (from the Bear and the Bow). When the REAL princesses (Eilonwy and Kida) are hated and ignored in that evil franchise.

WOW . . . not a huge fan of his design. they just don't make princes the way they used to.

HOWEVER, i'm loving a ton of these designs. madam odie may be my favourite (with ray at a close second).

davidkawena In reply to HarperJade [2009-03-18 20:39:45 +0000 UTC]

But he is SO CUTE!

I think once the actual animation parts from the film will start to kick in you'll discover him again, and like him! I actually hope that the final design of Mama Odie will be a lot better then that concept art that made it's way online last week. I wanted her to be really cool and mysterious.... and Funny!
