Gah, just wonderful. I love that you kept your sketch lines in there, too. They're giving me some ideas of things to try.
Great work, good sir!

Goodness, I am so excited for this film and am seriously hoping it turns things around for the world of 2D animation. I love your decision to go rough and organic with this piece -- Tiana is looking gorgeous, and Naveen seems to know how lucky he is to have a gal like her. Love the heart-shaped vine, and, of course, how on-model you are never ceases to blow me away!

Aww this is adorable. I haven't seen him yet and I was really wondering what Prince Naveen was going to look like.
Can I be honest though? I was kinda hoping he'd be black too. Regardless, the film still looks amazing and that's not going to keep it from being a hit! (i hope.... )

Picormdwe In reply to Inuibuki [2009-03-18 06:58:07 +0000 UTC]
He to me definetely looks like he's not of European background. Could be wrong but they're usually pretty pastey looking.
I like the idea that he's not black. Having a mixed race couple is a much better way of promoting harmony than saying blacks only marry blacks kinda thing.
I hate Ray though and I hope they eat him within a minute of the show.

Yeah I agree with that. I just wasn't really sure but either way it's fine. I just imagined him a little different, that's all.
I agree with you there too. My boyfriend is Native American and I'm black. So of course I'm fine with mixed race couples. lol
Aww,I'm sorry. I don't think he's gonna go though. He'll probably be there till the happily ever after. I know how you just have those certain characters that you just want to go away but then they never do. x_x;

I agree with you. Bi-racial couples are still sort of looked down upon, and it's good to promote harmony with.

I think he IS black in this. Judging by his face and the disney-fied hair... just the lankyness of the prince leads me to beleive that.
Though I LOVE how he incorperated the lillies and vines into their outfits <3

He lookes black to me. I have a friend that has the same skin tone that he does and he is black. Or Just like Inuibuki says, mixed?

Prince Naveen has a dark tanned skin colour, a 'mocha'-ish tone (confirmed fact). Not sure what race he's supposed to be though.. Still, it doesn't matter in the slightest to me Tiana and Naveen make a striking pair, and I'm just so happy that 2D animations are being brought back to life again. Believe me, Disney never fails to impress when it comes to hand drawn works. Can't wait for this movie to be out!!

velvetina211 In reply to Sakura-Kagurazaka [2009-04-22 18:39:03 +0000 UTC]
Agree with the hispanic princess and prince, but it would be dificult, because here in latin america we never had any monarchy after Spanish people come, before we have indian empires, but no in all america and, being honest, I prefer a mixed latinamerican charachter if they do one someday, because here we are all mixed, even me

Sakura-Kagurazaka In reply to velvetina211 [2009-04-22 20:55:41 +0000 UTC]
Now there's a good idea!
Though, I think anything done with latin american MIGHT constitute a bit of "copycat" from dreamworks since they did Road to El Dorado.... It was dreamworks wasn't it?
Though that is kinda like Mexico Inca I beleive. Something centering around the Panama or the beautiful beaches of Latin America woul be really nice. Someone release plot bunnies on the Disney crew!!!

about el dorado, yep, were dreamworks
and thanks for the reply.
America has a lot of landscapes and stories.
Unless I did my own fan art, but donΒ΄t expect something like this fan art
Disney in a future maybe will do something.
I hope so

I thought so. I loved El Dorado <3
Nothing's been done about other Native American tribes either... or even some of the past *hopes to sell her book/script to disney and hope they dont screw it up*
I just love this one's style. So very very close to the classics that we all know and love

and the traditional stile too, since I was a child I expect a black main character
IΒ΄m happy the return to Disney to this stile.

Yea. Me too. I'm just so happy they're going back to good old fashioned 2D animation. I mean, Pixar is good and all that, but it seemed like they're trying a wee bit to hard. Hell, even Dreamworks is like "screw this"

I had the same thought too but I just wasn't really sure. There's a link on the disneylicious site that has a color picture of him. So that's kind why i thought what I thought. Maybe he's mixed?
Yes! I do too!

I'm just intrigued how it took Disney this long to have a black princess and they're chill with a mixed marriage. lol! just a funny thought
Frankly to me why does it matter? It's all love ain't it ^^ not to mention fantastical Disney princess love.....

I personally think it's a good thing. I'm a black woman in a relationship with a white man, and people still look at me and him like we're insane. The trend in most comics/shows is to put black characters together simply because they're black, and isn't that just as bad? It's forcing characters together because they look alike, regardless to whatever relationship they may have.
Of course, I'm thinking of that godawful Storm marries Black Panther bull that Marvel pulled.

I totally feel the same way! My mom is black and my dad is white so I love the idea of a mixed Disney relationship. I also always found it kinda funny that people cry out for race tolerance in Disney films but whine about the idea of the princess being black and the prince being white. Can you say hypocrisy?

purplecowstudios In reply to HystericSun [2009-03-19 22:56:11 +0000 UTC]
haha too true. And I agree with you entirely. It is a good thing. I have a couple racial mixed married friends and I believe the more culture the more fun! I'm a whitey through and through, and each chance and diversity and culture interests me. I was more referring to Disney's bass-akward traditions. It's not much secret Walt hated the jews, and they still have equality employment right issues between the genders so I thought this was quite the jump for them. Always for the better. I love change! What I Was saying was more dry humor.

Ooookay, fine, I have a different political viewpoint than our current president, but it still does not diminish my pro-interracial stance!
And to all naysayers, let it never be said that republicans don't support interracial couples! Learn from this, and become wiser!
