Neither, he's Latino if I remember reading correctly.
I don't see how people can think he's "white" unless we're talking about European (?) ethnicities (Greek, Italian, etc).
It has become a huge (and ridiculous) "controversy" because they didn't make him black like Tiana.

This is really cute. It almost makes me think of the top of a wedding cake which is really cool.
