I love this, too! Especially because you were on the edge of the storm and caught stars. (I saw something similar a couple of years ago and tried to paint a picture, but it didn't look real enough...)

WOW perfect timing! i like it. That was a hot bolt in that cloud, something like that is powerful enough to make you look like a burnt wood match lol

Thank you very much! It was two or three bolts of lightning. Had an exposure time of eight seconds allowed for that. Thank you for your comments!

Oh, very nice and clear. I love the soft lighting, the blue icy colours are beautiful. The lightning lighting up behind the clouds and shining down is especially cool. The clouds off to the left look blurry, but that's minor. The view of the stars is cool. I think having the trees included was a good idea too, and just having all these things together. Overall, nice work. Lmao, did I just critique this? XD I love these kinds of photos.

Yes, I do believe that was a critique! LOL I shot this from my front yard just over the top of my neighbors house. Those are his palm trees. Thank you for stopping to share your thoughts on this photo. It is very appreciated!

Heheh! I've had that happen to me before. Submit a picture and half a second later there's a fave and/or a comment! Always makes me go WHAAAAT? LOL

But this picture is AWESOME! What kind of camera and lens(es) do you use?

Used My Nikon D80 camera, Nikkor 18-55mm zoom lens. Then lens set 18mm and the camera set for an 8 second exposure. I use this set up for most of my lightning shots.

I got a little Canon PowerShot. It has loads of settings, but I want a REAL camera. Must...have...Nikon... *checks wallet*....*moths fly out* crap.

Hey, some of those point and shoots are pretty good. Which Nikon are you wanting? Of course I want the D3x but I can't even afford the D90 at this point. Champagne taste on a beer budget! LOL

I do really like my Canon (it was literally attached to my hip with strings to my hands all day at the aviary yesterday), but I want the best Nikon I can afford and I can't go over like, $900 and that's pushing it. I can always go browse a pawn shop, but items there can be iffy, depending on where you shop. A lot of my shots at the aviary probably would have turned out better if I had a manual focus lens to work with instead of an autofocus that always wanted to shoot the fence and not the bird. Argh. But seriously man, champagne taste on a beer budget. More like champagne taste on a WATER budget with me. LOL

Don't know how comfortable you are with buying on-line but you should check out adorama.com. They are based in NY. You can buy quality used and factory refurbished cameras. I have bought three different used lens and a new macro flash. Still have all and all work great. This photo was used taken with one of the lenses! I've seen refurbished Nikon D90 for about $750. Just a thought!
