Its not added later on, its because its shot with film (analog), the effect on the right is caused by a small hole in the seal of the camera (which is by now fixed), which led to that light came in the camera and exposed the film a little bit.

Wow. Film...a lost art these days. The light on the side makes for a great effect. I'm guessing you develop your own film as well?
