Description
Here is a little bird-bot sketch.I am not good @ drawing robots so I try to address issues like these by just diving in and falling on my face. I feel its very important to challenge ourselves as artists. Here's one of the robot sketches I do like.Related content

Lovely stuff! I was going to suggest looking at the anatomy of a real bird and use that as a base. Someting else I find helps is to just draw things completely rounded and add the robot parts in later. You know, get that form and gesture going on... THEN worry about the finer details. Actually, the pic that first inepired me to start drawing robots was this: [link]
I hope it inspires you as much as it did me! (maybe you've already seen it?) But still, this is a brilliant first attempt! I particularly like the look of that bottom jaw.

This is awesome. Once again, the simplicity of this drawing is amazing.

Challenge is good. Some people just draw the same thing over and over again. They're good at it, but only at that one thing.

Robot chicken, eh?
I love the movement here. although some bending in the legs would be nice - it's the joints and the way they flex that distinguish birds from any other two-legged monstrosities. Get them right and style and material don't matter

Yeah, although I'm sure lots of people just ignore that fact, and make them to look cool

I hear that. I am AWFUL at drawing inorganic objects. Cars, robots, machine guns, toasters - you name it. I was thinking of challenging myself lately by putting a car into my next animation... that would make me learn to draw cars believably, that's for sure.

now that I am doing storyboards I have to draw cars and things like that all the time, but trust me, its easy when you have to deal w/consistent acting

looks cool, I guess one way to learn is to look at what other people are doing and being inspired by the complexity or simplicity of the design. 1 example that comes to mind is this one [link]
I feel that skeleton like robots look more mechanical then ones made up with bulky shapes.
I like artists who challenge themselves outside their confort zones because it shows me that they truely stive to expand their own horizons when it comes to designs and techniques. I try to expand my animation by looking into different part of it and it certainly helped me a lot.
Again Awsome work!

Well I think you did brilliantly Not like I'm much of an artist myself to offer tips, but I think you did fairly well for being underpracticed
Though I will say that the body looks... out of perspective/proportion with the legs, the legs are great and angled and show your usual spectacular range of motion, but the body seems flat and 2D and... out of place-ish. The chest cavity should be more rounded, skewed, and angled forward.

Wonderful attempt at a robotic bird. If you are serious about creating robots I suggest that you look up how mechanical objects function to create a "real" robotic bird. For example look up Leonardo DiVinci's flying creations for inspiration. I hope this will help your quest to be the best artist even though your skills far surpass mine.

I realize that but we are among friends here that can professionally critique each others work. I would be not offended if someone told me my work is a piece of @$$. As long as they tell me what they don't like about it. You have to have the balls to defend your opinions.
