I really like how the grooves on his skin give the Hulk's skin a leather-like quality. I commend you for the detail in Collossus' armor! Alot of artists don't put that work into it anymore.

man u seem to be making a point of outdoing yourself everytime you do a new pic

awesome work! for some reason it takes me back to the days when the xmen were good (Lee era)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

davidyardin In reply to danielpicciotto [2008-10-23 01:30:22 +0000 UTC]

Isn't that the point, to try and outdo yourself everytime?

Some art I bought off Whilce came to me around the time I started doing this. So I was looking at a lot of that old X-Men stuff by him and Jim at the time. So yeah I had a bit of a throwback flavour in mind while I was drawing this.

I popped in quickly, but they only had the 11" x 14" there. I was gonna check in and see if you were at work that day, but it was our anniversary, and we were running late for Cirque Du Soleil, and still hadn't had dinner yet.

I'm gonna see if I can get some paper from overseas, as no stores can/will import it for me.

turbosuo [2008-10-21 11:21:19 +0000 UTC]

Kinda reminds me of the issue of Uncanny X-men where Wolvie Nightcrawler and Colossus go to a bar to relax. Colossus has a bit more than he could handle and ends up getting into a fight with someone at the bar who just happened to be Juggernaut. Wolvie lets Colossus get smacked down to teach him a lesson. Though the Juggernaut was a fairly good sport about it. I dont know that the Hulk would be. I love your style, it has a hint of Arthur Adams in it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

davidyardin In reply to turbosuo [2008-10-23 01:27:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I remember that issue. Wish I could have done interiors for this one, as it sounds reminiscent of that issue.

I like Art Adams, but wouldn't call him a direct influence. I was more molded from the art of Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio, and Scott Williams, though I guess they were influenced by Art Adams before them.

turbosuo In reply to davidyardin [2008-10-24 15:56:19 +0000 UTC]

The reason I see Adams in your stuff is because it's so clean I think. You dont put lines where they dont really need to be without sacraficing the volume you get with the cross hatching.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

davidyardin In reply to turbosuo [2008-10-25 13:03:38 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's quite easy to over-render art with lots of cross hatching, and I do try to keep it clean most of the time. There are some artists who are quite good at using lots of hatching and making it work, but then there are others who use it for the sake of adding "detail" and to hide flaws in the rest of their work.

beautiful david u knocked it out of the park each rendition of characters are dynamic and your own, now.. i dont wana be a fanboy here haha but isn the hulks skin inpenetreble? i bet the answer is yea besides adimantium haha and for the record i think they shud change it from d.i.y to d.i.y.s (do it yardin style)!! haha

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Twood0852 In reply to harley00 [2011-07-16 18:39:18 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure about now, but I know it didn't use to be. Not just adimantium either, the character Rock from the duo Rock and Redeemer was able to penetrate the Hulks skin with his weird rock like exoskeleton. I could list other examples exempt your right it's not that big a deal.

davidyardin In reply to harley00 [2008-10-21 10:14:59 +0000 UTC]

Oops ... I obviously don't read a lot of Hulk, but I enjoy drawing him... even with penetrable skin.
