In the early 2000s humanity began to realize just what a wonderful thing the internet is. You can find literally anything out there in cyberspace. It includes all types of insane theories, rumours and stories. One man living in Tokyo had been fascinated by stories of mermaids since he was a child, now a man, he sought out every story he could find. He had become obsessed over years and was dedicated to his own private study of the stories and indulgence in his vivid fantasies. He had become an introvert and a loner. The story of the fisherman's wife was especially captivating. He'd followed every salacious rumour and speculative detail. The murders of course had never been substantiated, or even necessarily proved to have happened but he was sure he was on the tail of the last's perpetrator. The rumoured murder, officially an unexplained disappearance, had happened in San Francisco in 1968, the same year a certain woman had moved from the City to Tokyo. The local San Fran Japanese community had murmured about the murder at the time but this talk had been dismissed by the police as superstitious gossip. All he could find was a grainy black and white picture of the woman accused of the murder but he was certain that he'd seen her in a market. He'd followed her that day. And then he stalked her, learning and planning everyday with the utmost care until he was ready to remove her from her life and into his.
Now he had her successfully moved in, settled and tucked in. He was going to be immortal, and with the benefit of a modern scientific outlook he could avoid ever being alone again.
