Description
In 1982, I was really cooking with the art thing. This is from the only drawing class I have ever had, and I did not learn much from it. I drew so much better than when I got older, not to mention 25 years of no artwork to speak of.
As can be seen, what I did not have in technique I more than had in layout and immediacy.
Giving up my vague idea of being a comic artist, as delusional as that may have been, was a dream deferred.
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
Langston Hughes, Harlem, 1951
