As cybernetics and robotic body modification took off in Japan, a particular style blossomed from the Harajuku scene. Various vanity-tech companies offered procedures to install synthcoating skin, faceplate, servo assist, and much, much more. These modified women, mixed with existing fashion styles, became known as mechakanojo. Some loved the new cutting edge style, others disapproved, warning of slowly lost humanity or companies exerting quiet, wireless influence on their mechakanojo customers. Some, on purpose or just by habit, stop thinking of them as people, and just treat them like full robots. Good fashion always breeds controversy.
