Description
Here's an image compilation that shows the process that I used for drawing WW. This is what I use for all at-home commissions. Usually I'm working on commissions at the show floor & don't have a scanner with me (or a light box!) but since this one was done at home, I was able to document each stage.1: Thumbnail out some pose ideas. This time, I got out my jump rope & tried a bunch of things myself to see what poses I liked.
2: Scanned my thumbnails, chose which one to go with (if I'm working with someone on their commission & they'd like, I send them the thumbnails so that they can choose with me). I cut & moved certain things. I work really fast with my thumbnails to keep that movement in the image, but her torso was too short & her arms were holding the rope in such a way that it went directly over her face, so I moved some of those things around & drew over it in a layer in photoshop. Once I was happy with it, I printed out image 2.
3: Placed a 9X12 smooth bristol board over image 2 printout & lightboxed in my pencils.
4: Inked it with Pitt artist pens. I actually prefer to work with a Windsor & Newton brush, but for speed, I went with the pen. I also need to do some tests to see which inks will work well with Copic markers. the pens are tried & proven, so that was another reason to stick with those.
5: Copic marker time! Fast becoming kind of like dessert ...my favorite part!
And that's my process for at-home commissions. At shows I don't have a light box or a scanner, so I thumbnail & then go straight to the board. Both ways work well & each have their benefits.
