So, while the contests goes on I decided to upload some more art which has been sitting in my stash for waay too long. There are also 9 more adoptables I've drawn, but those will have to wait for when the current contest will be over x3

Anyway, after seeing Lopoddity 's latest drawing of her character Iridescence, a half changeling, I suddenly felt the urge to draw weird insect mandibles and opted for both Thorax and Cordelia, his and Spike's daughter. I, uh, don't really know if I like the result, but I guess that being a first time it's not too awful...? I hope Also, here's a little headcanon about that, always inspired by Lopoddity:

Though Changelings no longer feed off emotions, sharing them instead, their predator instincts and weapons still exist. Because of this, when a Changeling hasn't been in a positive relationship (no matter with which sort of creature) for a pretty long time, or if they've been surrounded by too many negative feelings, their behavior might turn savage and fierce, to the point they may even attack and kill the most desirable prey (or the closest one, depending on the hunger) they find. Their strong and sharp mandibles can also secrete a sedating venom which doesn't generally let the victim die, so that the Changeling can devour their emotions before leaving the injured completely exhausted and livid. Though it's not a very common occurrence, it's not rare either, especially in the very first periods when Changelings still had a hard time integrating themselves with the pony society because of discrimination and prejudices.
The Changelings' Kind, Thorax, never really goes into his predatory phase because of lack of love or friendship, being almost always surrounded by his beloved family and friends (especially after the birth of Cordelia); however he can become terrifyingly dangerous when he fears his daughter, his mate, or anyone he cares for is threatened. Whereas Spike was overprotective while Delia hadn't hatcthed yet (a behavior typical of dragons), Thorax suddenly became a helicopter parent in her first months of life and anyone getting too close to the baby hybrid risked being attacked. The particular mandibles Changeling can pull out are also used to communicate, and when extracted they generally mean either fear or an imminent assault. They're often shown during mating season, as well, especially by dominant individuals, who tend to bite their partners as a sign of ownership. Spike, though, who was not particularly informed on this subject, kind of freaked out when Thorax slowly drew his fauces and gently bit him on the withers...
Cordelia's first "discovery" of her mandibles was, instead, a traumatic event: it was actually an accident, and it was her body reacting in a natural and instinctive way to a threaten, but the horrified look that the occasionally bully gave her before running away, and the unsettling sensation she felt made her swear to never repeat the scary experience ever again (even though, being so little, she can't control such anatomical weapons too well).

Then, after drawing strange bug jaws, I felt like practicing some more snarling headshots and ended up with the few predator-like characters in my nextgen AU (which, by the by, I dub the Dawnverse), that is to say Discord, Flitterwick (lookit the lil' fluffy boy tryin' to scare a butterfly), Ember, and... yes, everyone, that's a brand new character: Ember and Flurry Heart 's son, Carlisle :3 The one I'm showing here is just a rough design which may get some variations later when I draw a proper reference for his family, buuut yeah, that's him :3 I actually quite like how he first came out, maybe only because this crack-ship's really got me lately (blame Lopoddity once again, we're apparently the only two people shipping this but oh well)... Or maybe because I've recently stumbled upon the beautifully astounding name Carlisle and I couldn't resist using it in some way. It's got such an... ancient and noble ring to it, Ember would definitely choose a name like that while Flurry would accept the suggestion with a happy giggle or something <3
