Description I had a lot of fun with this one. It is done with dry pastels on arches cover. It is about 23 inches X 15 inches. I got help with pastel techniques from Planetsomsom, Thanks a bunch!

Unfortunately my camera ate some of the colors, so its a little different in person.

Enjoy!

Lovely! I think this composition has great movement in it, you can see in which way the unicorn is running.

I`m curious about the story behind this. Is there one?

I recently moved to North Carolina in the mountains. I was inspired to draw this after first being here. When I look at it I here Irish folk music, heavy on the drums.

Do you see a story? Because thats the heart of all art, does it move the viewer to see something, to feel something.

That`s lovely!

And yeah, it has that story feel to it that I can`t quite describe. Some deviations just have that feel like this is just one scene of a far larger story than that we see here, that there is a whole lot more background to it. I have a special collection folder for deviations that give me that feeling or that are inspired by a story which the artist heard of of thought of him/herself. You can browse it here if you like.

The unicorn seems to be in a hurry, he`s on his way to somewhere or someone. Also the place he runs through seems so desolate, like he is one of a rare group of mystical creatures, it`s like we as an audience are lucky to see this scene. I can really picture the Irish music with this.

I completely agree! I enjoy your view on this, and I did totally check out your collection of story-like works, I'm flattered you felt my art worthy to be among them. Thank you so much! (blush)

If you photograph your pictures in natural light that is not too bright or dark, then if you have photoshop or similar you can use the various functions to rectify colour issues.

You're welcome, there might be cheaper programs or freeware that can help with colour-loss issues. Good luck

holy crap! haha! I feel kinda sheepish because I don't even use pastels most of the time, but good you had fun!

It must be much brighter in real life. I like the hills the best, they're perfectly subtle. Can't believe you can get small details with pastels.
