Description
Hey guys, REALLY sorry for not posting here, I've had a lot on my mind and a lot of business to take care of. But I have been keeping up with the episodes, and BOY was I surprised when they brought Tirek back.I was actually hoping they'd include some of the G1 villains because they were some of my favorites, most notably Scorpan. I like how they briefly mentioned him in the finale, but it would have been nice to see him play a larger role. It kind of bothers me seeing people unfamiliar with G1 saying "Oh wow who are these mysterious new characters?!" ugh xD
His cute and cuddly storybook-style is fine, but I prefer his more menacing gargoyle look. Here I just sort of tried to mix the two together.
Anyway, I just wanted to doodle this to get my mind off things, so it's not nearly as neat as my usual stuff. Thoughts on the finale?

His G1 depiction was tragic already: Scorpan pretended to be a villain but he, in fact, hated being the pawn of Tirek. He wanted to act, he wanted to rescue the ponies that the centaur was hurting, but most importantly, he wanted to take Spike away from him. When Firefly, Megan and company arrived, Scorpan knew it was the perfect moment to switch sides.
Now, taking the G4 backstory, he reached a new level of tragedy: Brothers at the beginning, Scorpan betrays Tirek and he could've probably feel really terrible doing it, but it was necessary in the end. He saved the world that time, but at what cost? Draws some parallels of what happened between Celestia and Luna during the Moon Banishment incident.

Β FINALLY!Β Someone who thinks about this the same way I do <3
;w;Β I feel so bad for Scorpan, who changed from bad to good and only just wanted his brother to join him...yet his brother scorned him just because he wanted to change.Β Strangely enough I find Tirek tragic as well, his irrational and destructive needs making his perception of Scorpan nothing but sheer hatred and disgust... I can only imagine that, even if a tiny unseen fraction, he probably felt hurt too because of what his brother did.

Looks a bit modern and still looking dangerous like his G1 counterpart, Scorpan that is.

Me too!Β ;w;Β
I love the fact they're brothers... and yet I feel bad for both because Tirek hated Scorpan for stopping him from causing havoc... and Scorpan probably was very hurt inside as well, trailing tears... wanting his brother to come with him in peace.
Make no mistake, these two would make a knockout tagteam~ ...they'd just have to first sort out their issuesΒ

I'm getting the impression that the two are brothers in the sense that Darunia and the Hero of Time are brothers.
..Just throwing my two cents out there.

I actually well respect your thoughts~Β To be honest we don't know how deep a meaning into the term "brothers" these two are... if only there was an episode (i hope there is one in season 5) to explain itΒ ;w;

Normally I prefer to stay the original story of Scorpan being a prince been turned to Tirek's slave. Being a brother really conflicts any fictions crossing with G1, especially Davidson's famous crossover fiction he wrote.

You can actually have it both ways. Imagine this:
Scorpan is the prince of a kingdom, Tirek is his brother but Scorpan is the actual heir. Tirek, infuriated with this, goes to find the power to take down his brother and conquer the kingdom for himself. Tirek finds the rainbow of darkness, which transforms him into his form of devil-centaur-bull thing he is, then uses that power to transform innocent creatures into his army, and then his brother into the gargoyle form he has.

Ahh, 2 prince brothers fighting for power. Although normally the older one inherits the kingdom, which I see Tirek is older. But still, you can do that. Even though the original story in G1 said that Tirek turned Scorpan from prince to gargoyle. Relationship not formed, it was formed but only as a title, not biologically.

My theory is more like this, based on Davidson's possible theories :
The prince died after all these times since Megan returned home. Tirek escaped Tartarus for the 1st time, he resurrects Scorpan back to life but also corrupts his heart in order to become evil again, which Tirek will call him brother. However, as they enter Equestria, Scorpan's heart brought to life when he remembered the ponies back when he was alive that time, he betrayed Tirek to warn the princesses. Tirek is banished to Tartarus the 2nd time, the first we know from the Rainbow of Light. Scorpan returned to his home, in the end, he died as a gargoyle rather than as a prince. Tirek once again escape Tartarus for the 2nd time again after regaining strength, but he's now going solo when realized Scorpan's heart will not be easily corrupted and find him weak.
There you go, my theory in order to gap between the G1 & G4 stories of them both.
Which also begs the question for Season 5, will we get to see Grogar again?

If they're clearly gunning for G1 intrigue, you'll never know~
I do admire your take on it.Β Sure we all have our own headcanon ideas, and it is rather fun and satisfying to come up with a logical one.Β However until the show answers we are left to speculateΒ

Speculate when people wishes the Mane 6 meet Scorpan, but I doubt about it when Scorpan is no longer alive for a very very long time. And Grogar is probably due by now, Celestia & Luna faced him once, Celestia alone faced him twice. And today is due for his return, it's 4 alicorns VS Grogar himself. Tirek maybe many people's #1 MLP Villain, but Grogar is #2, my #2.
