Hmmm! I like the effect, though I agree with aobaob, the frame doesn't work that well here... well it's a great experiment anyway and it looks so spooky because it looks like his head is cut off!

Looks like a record player from a distance away... you and your PS filters!

It not PS! (It is an B&W plugin for Lightroom that I am trying mainly for its 'sophisticated' grain effects. Could be done with PS ofc.)

Hahaha... get rid of the frame and it may have a degree of sophistication

Pfft, that is vignetting...the dark line at tonality transitions is typical of solarization, and even has a name.

Ah yes, but that doesn't stop it looking like a cheap frame from a crap photoshop plugin for us ignorant picture perfect people, even though it is a work of fine art. My mad uncle has a name, but that doesn't mean I'd show him to everyone who'd listen.

Pfft, the technique matches perfectly with the subject matter! It is a classic! Besides you need to understand the past to envision the future!
I will have to agree that PS filter stuff has cheapened this type of manipulation, but when it was new, it must have been shocking. Anyways, it is good practice, IMO.

I was just joking
I have to admit though, it does suit the image pretty well... but I cannot get over that vignetting/frame.

Nps, I always feel a bit uneasy when I use PS 'tricks' as a major part of a pic. I guess there is always a danger that if you take them away, there would be nothing interesting left in the image. In other words, they should add to the image, not make the image.

This one does add to it, not make it in my opinion. The water ripples, the fact that we can't see the ducks head, the body. A good image, probably a bit dull in the original, which is the reason why you added this, and the two do work pretty well. But that framey/vignetty thing...

Actually, the main reason I chose this to be a victim was the technical details: relatively low res, a bit blurred because hand-held in low light, etc., none of which matters when you do a grainy solarization. Plus the many tonality gradients on the water surface and duck's plumage work well with a solarization.
You love the frame... *Jedi mind trick*
