Description
A great wave of stone, carved out of the soft rock by erosion.More info about GΓΆreme, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Hmm...now that you mention it...
Actually its the remains of an ancient dwelling carved into the rock, and then partially eroded. The stone in this area is very soft so it can be carved (and eroded) very easily.

Very interesting structure. It looks so soft, almost like sugar or flour.

The whole region (Cappadocia, especially around Goreme) is full of formations formed by erosion; the rocks are so soft that they can be easily shaped by nature or carved man. They are not as soft as flour though.
The place is a photographer's paradise, the only problem is deciding between the possibilities. I could just take one such formation and probably take 100 different photos at different times of the day, weather, viewpoints, etc.

I've read and heard a lot about it and seen lots of beautiful photos too. I can imagine it must be hard to decide what to take pictures of...
