Chalked it up to courageCalled it a mistake
Said you’d be fine without me
and so I walked away
Buried it beneath the pines
Blamed it on the rain
Bottles cradled in my hands
to swallow all the pain
Words I wrote on pages
Keys I stroked and struck
Created worlds within the air
Lost all my faith in luck
Time, they say it heals all
And words are only words
But those you spoke, I still recall
And God, do they still hurt
