Description They say “talk”;
their ears are always open.
But what is there to say?

They say “call”;
I’m welcome to any time.
But will they answer me?

They say “it’s fine”;
I’ve got no reason to hide.
But do they speak the truth?

They say “trust me”;
they plead for me to do so.
But why, pray tell, should I?

Every word
of his and hers –
written, spoken,
read, or heard –
I want to believe.

Every doubt
I’ve ever had,
I want to forget.

But I’m still trying to forget
that I was ever forgotten.
