Description

They warned you not to go swimming in brackish water. It was the hunting ground for unseen predators. However, while roaming the swamp alone one day, you catch sight of a slippery shape and flashes of teal shining through, something that did not belong. You follow along in its wake deeper and deeper into the swamp, catching glimpses of the mysterious teal scales, a taunt to uncover the creature.

As you find it slowing, you swear you can hear someone singing a mournful song, each note hauntingly full and perfectly pitched. The dark oily shape sits in the water before you, sparkles of the scales peak through below the surface. You duck you head under the water, opening your eyes to

hopefully see the creature, and instead your eyes fall upon a mermaid.

She seemed lost in thought, her delicate fingers tracing the groves of a human skull, and her eyes still fixed on it as if it held the answers to all her questions. You realize the eerie song is coming from her. The moment of awe is broken as the current from your movement reaches her and she realizes she is not alone. Her hair shining like an oil spill whips with her head as her glowing glare falls on you…
