The acrid stench of blood and death filled her nostrils with every damp gust of wind. Dangling precariously over the edge of the tower, the cage gently rocked back and forth like the pendulum of a clock, keeping time that didn’t matter. The ridicules and mocking hurled at her by angry mobs had slowly faded away like the summer’s warmth. The opposing kingdom had declared her the Queen of Nothing, but you wouldn’t have been able to tell by the fierce battle raging on in the distance. Her confinement offered her zero comfort, so she escaped to the only place she knew she could find it.
